If Mercedes get away with that, it might be the most scandalous officiating decision of an already embarrassing year for the stewards. So flagrantly cheap.

There is the 10-car gap rule but I don't know if that only applies once the snake has formed.

I think it was a wise move. There's bound to be another VSC/SC. Plus this way he has track position directly in front of Hamilton and can help wear out his tires quicker as it won't be easy to pass. And should Hamilton attempt a pass, well then Verstappen can always get his elbows out, and he'd be in a position to benefit ;)

And that's precisely why you always go for track position when you have the opportunity...it paid off well here for Verstappen and Red Bull.
