Apparently it may change between now and Melbourne.

Black needs more contrast. At least it's not grey.
So how's Prost involved?

I assume this is just some sort of test livery in anticipations of some more sponsors?

My guess is that they choose for this livery because it doesn't jump out and they're expecting a transition season. Do they happen to do well during the testing they'll decide to go for a more visible livery after all.

Apt that it should be painted in (almost) Minardi colours considering where it will probably be on the grid.

And Renault confirmed that this is just an interim livery. This was just to launch the team as Renault and not not-Lotus.

Well at least Minardi had some nice liveries.

I'm pretty sure they would launch the livery today. Probably already had it backfire so hard they decided to change it.

All they did today was launch the team as Renault. Not the car and not the livery. Bit of a PR gimmick, would have worked much better with something from 2016 (aside from the driver lineup)

Nah, it is actually this year's car. For some reason they just decided to pay hardly any attention to it! The presentation itself was pretty awful.

Hopefully Autosport will have a decent summary of it shortly.

You sure? It looks very much like the E23 to me. On phone at the moment so can't do proper looking.

Black car number 1, now we wait for the other black or silver cars. How dull.

The back end looks different to last year's car, but not much else stands out. Ghosn has set them a target of podiums within three years, so I guess the word is 'evolution'.

Meh, it's ok.

And this isn't the new car at all, just the livery. The new car will be launched at the first test afaik.

Comparing it to the (shit and fairly inaccurate - only proper side-on photo I've found so far that makes for a good comparison) launch render of the E23, the only differences I can spot side-on are the rear wing support pylon and the mini shark fin. Looking at photos from the Brazilian GP, both of those match the "RS16" version.

EDIT:

Confirmation it's a show car based on last year's chassis:

Aha, good spot. I know 'launch cars' have always been a thing in the model world, but I can't think of any real-life examples recently that haven't been explicitly a livery launch. I guess Renault haven't actually launched anything but the name!
