The famed Southern 500 at Darlington has returned to its rightful spot on Labor Day weekend, and to celebrate, the entire NASCAR community will be going retro. Many drivers and teams are going back to the past with some classic paint schemes spanning through the decades. The Petty's are represented here, whether it be Richard's legendary Petty Blue/dayglo red combo (Almirola) to Kyle's eye-popping jet black/neon green of Mello Yello days gone by (Larson). David Ragan and Jeb Burton flying the colors that made their fathers famous. Clint Bowyer and Dale Jr. paying their respects to the late, great Buddy Baker. The Silver Fox, Awesome Bill, The Tide Ride, and many more. Even NBC could be joining in on the fun with classic commercials and other surprises.

Let's just hope the racing itself will be as old school as the rest of the proceedings....

Also this weekend: ARCA @ DuQuoin State Fair, K&N Pro West @ Meridian Speedway, and Whelen Southern Modifieds @ Langley Speedway.

Sprint Cup: Bojangles Southern 500 Entry List
Xfinity: Help A Hero 200 Entry List
ARCA: Southern Illinois 100 Entry List

Throwback schemes, the low downforce package, and a classic track. Looking forward to this one.

Been looking forward to this race for a while. Hopefully the racing is good with the low downforce package in Cup and a Busch Series regular can beat one of them damn Busch-whackers (I think I am dreaming on that one though)

The cup race could either be one of the best races in years, or the most disappointing race ever.

I'll be at the ARCA race at Du Quoin next Monday. Will probably try to make the USAC show the day before, as the race at Springfield was pretty good. Still planning to do the Salem & Kentucky ARCA races but I might make Kansas this year too.

The Southern 500 was always a long, arduous race. Sometimes it had exciting finishes though.

If we're going to roll out long winded old school names...

The NASCAR Busch Grand National Humingbird Fishfinder 500K.

I remember watching those races vividly. It blew my mind when I saw a guy named Fischlein running in a race sponsored by a fishfinder.

IIRC, they actually sponsored his car in that race, in addition to being the race's title sponsor.

The field is going to look incredible, just hope all the teams who didn't participate have major issues in the race. If a regular wins the "Busch" race I'll eat my hat.

Then to top it off NBC announces this:

Quote:
NBC announces Ken Squier, Ned Jarrett and Dale Jarrett will call a portion of the Southern 500 broadcast from the booth.

So fucking tast. If it weren't for F1 this weekend, we could've had a Squier/Hobbs reunion as well.

Seriously? I joked to myself earlier "so when are they gonna put Ken Squier back into the booth?" Hah.

That's fuckin awesome. This kicks so much ass. And let us remember that the cars will have the low downforce package too.

Yea this is going to be the most entertaining race we've had in years... Old schemes, old announcers, low down force package, apparently major tire wear off happening as well. I miss being this pumped every weekend for the races.

I don't see why that would stop anything. F1 finishes hours before the start and it's not like they'll actually be commentating from monza.... :o
