In terms of that quiz, I don't even remember China hosting the final race of the season. Short memory...

Still doesn't ring any bells. I remember Albers and Schumacher colliding coming to the grid, and Schumacher spinning off behind the safety car. Not sure if either of those was 2005 mind.

That was in that race. It was the final race of the season, obviously.

Feck off Ferrari, f1 is an open wheel formula. Please don't waste our time by distracting the sport from fixing the problems that need sorting by dangling a futuristic carrot that has no chance of ever becoming a reality

They'd have been better off spending the money spent designing this on their marketing department to publicise how the engines we have now are much more efficient, economic, more exciting to watch and before too long will be faster than what we before.

But that wouldn't suit their private agenda, just be good for the sport overall. Can't have that.

F1 helmet design changes in-season to be banned
Formula 1 drivers will be banned from changing helmet designs in-season under new rules set to be introduced this year, AUTOSPORT can reveal.

As part of a push to improve the promotional appeal of the sport, F1 chiefs have grown concerned that fans are turned off by drivers constantly changing their helmet colours.

Unlike the days of Ayrton Senna when a drivers' iconic helmet design was part of his appeal, these days some drivers change their colours at every race.

One of the most extreme examples is four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, who has used around 60 different helmet designs over the course of his career

Just like a rule introduced last year that has forced drivers to keep the same car number for their career in a bid to make it better for marketing, F1 will now force drivers to not change helmet designs as much.

High-level sources have revealed that teams, the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone have agreed to limit drivers to just one helmet design for the season.

This was approved at a meeting of the F1 commission in Geneva this week, and is set to be ratified by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council for introduction this season.

The hope is that fans will be able to identify with drivers more easily both at the track and on television.

I'll miss the homeGP and Monaco specials. Don't care about Vettels other helmets or a Matt LeBlanc helmet.

My thoughts exactly..... While I miss the iconic helmets because drivers change them whenever they please or their sponsors demand it but this is the last thing they should worry about right now.

Typical for the FIA under Todt I guess.

So there's no German GP and a possible 18 cars at Melbourne, yet they worry about stupid helmet changes :slaphead: :slaphead:

The problem isn't that drivers like Vettel change their helmets. The problem is the helmets are an over complicated mess of terrible design that are indistinguishable from one another anyway. And even changing them every year means the designs are no longer iconic. Raikkonen and Alonso designs don't look anything like the originals, neither did Schumis by the time it was finished.

That's what I thought. There's so many things going on right now and all they do is come up with a car that doesn't look like an F1 car at all. I don't like it.

If they want to make it more marketable, why don't they use social media and YouTube. Oh yeah, cause it "has no value"
Consistent helmets are nice, but it's hardly a priority, but it's not a surprise.

Yeah, not a priority, but an easy fix that doesn't cost any effort, so why would the postpone it untill they fix major problems?

Why should they do it in the first place?

It's not something anyone is concerned about except the high gentlemen themselves.

easy fix, but I'd put money that this was talked about within the fia, then discussed with all the teams, then voted on. Because God knows the fia can't just tell the teams what the rules are.

Got to say I'm glad, in a way. Vettel's changes were too many and the Monaco "specials" were no longer special when everyone was doing it.

That all said, it's papering over cracks again. One day someone will concentrate on the real challenges F1 is facing. Like budgets, prize money, keeping teams afloat, etc...

There is also a thing called public opinion. Everywhere you look the FIA is being ridiculed over this. It's a nice thing on its own but not something that needs to be done right now.

It's like being in the hospital and the doctors ignoring your illness but proudly proclaiming they gave you a haircut. Gee thanks, now I look better but I'm still ill......

No, it's like the hairdresser giving you a haircut while a doctor is diagnosing your illness.

Sorry for not FIA-bashing.

More like amputating your leg to cure an ingrowing toenail.
