How many of the ridiculous front wing flaps are going to survive turn 1?

Going after performance/lap records for spectacle or whatever by throwing tons of downforce on the cars is all well & good, But when they produce shit racing because of how much dirty air all these flaps are likely to produce then who's going to keep watching?

Courtesy of Taki's Facebook page. Has anyone else noticed how tiny the sidepod inlets are? You'd have to assume they are adjustable, and this is 'arctic blizzard' mode.

IMO it doesn't look bad though. Just hoping all that dirty air won't make racing utterly dull.

The dirty air will destroy the racing in high speed corners, guaranteed.

Part of the attraction of the DW12 is it's aero package that keeps dirty air to minimum, now they've started letting them add winglets and all that shit, it'll just bugger things up, unless of course it punches such a huge hole in the air it gives a massive tow.

Those winglets on the rear dodgem guards will redirect the air upwards, nagating the downforce produced by the front wing on the following car, the old guards produced a vortex effect which directed the trailing air back down towards the road, thus giving the following car downforce.

Welcome to the Verizon Aeropush World Series, powered by never learning from NASCAR's mistakes.

They're going to ruin literally the only thing this series has going for it

Let's wait and see how the first race goes before proclaiming the series death.

There's more than enough evidence to suggest that this can only make the racing worse. Sure it's best not to judge before we've seen it in action but in this case it can only go one way.

At first I was very disappointed to learn the season will end so early, but now I'm happy I won't see those monstrosities for longer

Also, imagine if the racing will suck. This could turn up to be quite a cock up.

One of the good things IndyCar introduced in the memory of fans World wide during the last decades was the idea of a fast open wheel car with less aerodynamic drag in comparison to F1. A beast on wheels.

Everyone associated IndyCar with a wild animal and If a driver wanted to try something wild and different, he should cross the Atlantic Ocean in the direction of "Wild West".....looks like this fame is over. :(

If you want to study how you ruin a brand and a racing series, just study the "IndyCar case".

Fast car with less drag? When?

That ended for me when they incresead the drag on purpuse in the late 90s, creating fake dispute for the lead (like it is now in the ugly DW-12).

I am as guilty of this as the next guy, but for Christ sakes stop comparing current Indycar with CART. US Indycar racing hasn't been "A beast on wheels" or the "Wild West" in close to 20 years. It's a spec chassis that people wanted differentiation in. Now they have it and are still pissed. Granted the oppurtunity was there to create a sleek, sexy race car that could carve out it's own slice of history, but this chance was missed.

I notice the majority of the bitching is from fans outside of the US, which I guess is only fair since most of the drivers are not from here. But, I find this all a bit like NASCAR fans criticizing V8 Supercars because they have that big wing on the back.

Maybe I'm getting old. I'm going to watch or DVR all the races just as I have been and enjoy them as best I can while I have the series I have so dearly loved for so many years. I've sat through and cursed at a lot worse than a few extra wings on the cars.
