So it's not too cold to practice but it is too cold to qualify?

No kidding. I think when they realized that there are only 33 cars making one attempt at 4 laps, it won't take long at all to get through the sessions.

Wouldn't the cars run faster in the cooler temps though? :?

Nice, lets see a demonstration race next year between himself and Zanardi.

Buddy Lazier first on track. 227.920 was a nice small pickup from yesterday. Still will likely be the 33rd qualified car.

This new qualifying format is terrible. Why fix something that ain't broke? Instead they should focus on fielding more than 33 cars to generate bumping.

Dixon just fires off a 1 lap 231.025 and 4 lap 230.928mph run! Too bad it can get him no higher than 10th.

I have a question regarding the oprtimal racing line round the corners.

Do they apex at the middle of the corner, or do they make some kind of late apex for better exit speed, as you usually do for 90° curves? From the camera angles, especially the main camera at turn 4, it looks like they make a late entry/late apex, but it could be an optical illusion.

This has been bothering me since i started watching Indianapolis many years ago, lol.

AIUI (based partly on an blog post by Mann last year), all four corners require a slightly different approach as they are not identical in layout - bear in mind the construction methods available to the planners! Apparently the exit to turn 4 is a bit tighter or closer than 2, and the wind direction will also give opposite corners different characteristics.

Turn 3 is almost 7 meters higher or lower than turn 1 ( can't remember which), they found that out when iRacing scanned the track.

Unless Anger Management turns up with a rocket up his arse, it looks like JPM will get P10.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

It's really cool to see that eventhough it's flat out, the cars aren't just sticking to the track like on rails.

Thanks, the bold part would definitely explain a delayed entry in 4 so as to tighten the line at exit.
