I don't work in the motorsport industry. Never really have.

Drive off the track to get a better run down the straight but only your previous lap gets deleted for being off track. Sigh.

I'm actually a little less annoyed, it's not like the gravel is gone completely....

So you know, still chance for a car to dig in for several sidewinding snap rolls, yay.
(Still though, an F1 car hasn't rolled due to gravel for almost exactly 10 years now, get over it FIA )

Running off the track and being able to gain advantage is the biggest issue I have with the tarmac.

Guess we will see many cars using the same line as Hamilton and Vergne.

All the challenge taken out of that corner. Just go flat at the exit, if you run wide the worst that can happen is your time being taken away

I assume with the widening of the line, the top speeds will become a bit faster.

anyway that's my proposal and I dunno its gonna be taken into account

Surprisingly, looking at MotoGP at the brickyard, it does look like Indianapolis has done this with one of their kerbs off the infield. :8:

so increase the challenge on parabolica

leave a small bump on the breaking point like they did on Les Combes

Check out mclaren2008's photo above Kals, tarmac extends further than the photo you posted, right up to where the old banked track enters the main pit straight. Its a nice explanation in the example you posted, and I actually wish that that were the case, but I would also have imagined that half tarmac and gravel stopping abruptly going round a bend would actually be rather dangerous, with the sudden change of surface whilst turning.

If TBK existed in 1968, members would be bitching and responding about how replacing leather skull caps with full face crash helmets was "pussifying the sport", "I'm not watching this anymore, this isn't the sport I fell in love with in 1954".

Except safety improvements don't work like that. It's not linear, it's logarithmic (increases a lot at the beginning, then its rate of increase declines).

Early on, very small improvements made a huge leap in safety and were necessary (add a barrier before the trees, a helmet instead of naked skull). Nowadays, we've reached a very high level of safety, and huge costly improvements just add a little tiny bit to safety. That's why fans see them as redundant, especially considering how much they take from the sport's excitement. It's not worth the trade-off IMO given the current injury/fatality rate in F1.

As an engineer, you'd be fired if you suggested such costly improvements on an already safe package, just to cover a one in a million chance event.

It's technically not a safe event if there is a one in a million event someone could be hurt. That one on a million event happens as an engineer I'm liable to the people and families of those seriously injured or killed, assuming I knew it was possible. I'd (or my company) would face full financial repercussions and be de-registered as engineers.

Sometimes for engineers even the odds of one in a billion are too high.

Engineers don't decide of what risk is acceptable. Every industry has norms and engineering practices made by regulating authorities. If you follow them, you're not liable at all if something outside the specifications happen. You are only if there has been negligence and improper following of procedures and regulations in place.

Even if you work for said regulating bodies, you work hand in hand with the industry actors, and have to keep it real for practical and economical reasons.

Max Verstappen has Joined Red Bull Junior team.
Will likely see him in F1 sooner or later.

Also, his 14 year old sister seems to be pretty fast as well.... Did we ever had brothers in F1? If they both keep this up we'll end up with brother and sister in F1
