I fear I may have put my foot in it here. If so, apologies

To be more constructive, here's a video of a 1996 onboard (plus others)

Well, getting more on to current things:
Quote:
Tobias Grüner F1 ‏@tgruener 6m
Mercedes engine chief Andy Cowell admitted the turbo engines are able to deliver around 700 hp - without ERS. AMuS: http://ams.to/hS

So, the PU will have a total power much greater than expected and quite a lot more than previous V8's Yay

Added to the better sound, imho, that makes the season more appealing to me. I just hope that's not the case with only Mercedes, otherwise...

EDIT: Well, don't get too excited:
Quote:
"AMUS: Wie stark ist der Verbrennungsmotor, wenn Sie in der Qualifikation volle Power erlauben?
How much power does the ICE have when run at maximum power during qualifying?

Cowell: Keiner wird eine genaue Zahl rausrücken. Alles dreht sich um thermische Effizienz. Der alte V8 war zu 30 Prozent thermisch effizient. Wir wollen auf 40 Prozent mit den neuen Motoren kommen.
No team will publish exact figures, but thermal efficiency is king. The old V8 had an efficiency of 30%, we want to reach 40% with the new engines.

Let's do the following calculation/estimation: 30 years ago with 1,5l displacement, at 5bar turbo pressure and 200kg/h fuel you could achieve peak powers of 1400hp. With half the fuel flow allowed in 2014 the ICE alone should make 700hp?

Cowell: Korrekt. So kann man rechnen.
Yes, that's how you can calculate/estimate."

For me the first question/answer tells much more than the second, as an efficiency target of 40% and 100kg/h fuel translates to

100kg*42MJ/kg/3600s * 40% = 467kW or 634hp

I loved that car even more with the Arrows team's strategy back then (especially with Verstappen): start mid-pack with low fuel, go medieval on the top 6 early in the race.

Verstappen was a very entertaining driver to watch! He had some amazing races back in 2000, specially Montreal, Monza and Nürburgring, even though he crashed at Nürburgring and lost the chance to score points there!

verstappen is still one of the best f1 drivers to never win a race IMO

Laugh all you want but he might have a point

(He probably doesn't - I'm just trying to provoke a reasoned debate)

That's why he was A1GP Champion in 2005 with equal cars, his talent and experience made the difference.

Maybe he means his son....there's half a chance he might be a racewinner, at least.

Some kids are worth punching other racing dads for. :p

I don't know who made the mod but the sound is made by me lol. The main problem is how revs seem to stop increasing at top revs, but that's another matter lol.

Here is the source :

The A1 championship is or was about as highly regarded as the League Cup in English soccer.

And he actually came 7th in that season with the likes of Alex Yoong beating him

Yet I still wonder what if he ditched his manager in favor of Willie Weber? Verstappen and Rothengarther made some very poor decisions over the years.
Also, what if Honda didn't pull the plug on their F1 project after Harvey Postlewaite passed away? He was doing quite good in that car.

possible racewinner is a maybe for me.

Verstappen was our most successful F1 driver but even he is a midfield driver, at best.

Wasn't it a race in Brazil that his fitness cost him a decent result?

Yup. And Walkinshaw got pissed and sent him on training courses.
