That would be great, and far more interesting than a fandom competition ... frankly, we're all on internet forums in our spare time, in the off season, posting about Formula One - whether we're moaning about it or not, if it weren't pretty important in our lives, we wouldn't be here, we're all fans.

It must be something to do with the maximum length of the car, and the wing's position relative to the front axle, longer and shorter wheelbase cars ... or some kind of such like. [/technical] A real answer would be good.

There's no such thing as "real" fans, as long as someone takes time out of their day to watch the F1 race, whether casually or getting up at 5am for a race out of their timezone, that's real enough for me.

Comparative to football fans we're in the minority anyway, so squabbling amongst ourselves trying to out-do one another about who is the most hardcore fan won't help matters much.
The second any of those guys said "well, F1 is boring isn't it? It's just cars driving around in circles...?" we'd all suddenly unite to prove them wrong so there's no need to divide ourselves by how much of our hard earned money we've put into Bernie Ecclestone's wallet...

"Real" fans...pffft.

I like the smaller front wing width looks better.

"Real fan" phrases the point wrong if you ask me. A true fan of Formula One or any sport for that matter watches or has an interest in it unconditionally.

I don't think the term unconditionally should be in there. There are certain aspects that make you love F1 and racing. If those aspects slowly are taken away and not replaced with new aspects that grab your interest, it doesn't make you any less of a fan but the sport itself is alienating itself from you.

I can't believe this even is a discussion. I consider myself as a big F1 fan, who cares if you all think I am or not.

And a main reason why it's tough to pin down "real F1 fans" is because F1 changes so freaking much everyone has their own different opinion on which aspects they like the most. Is it because of the pursue of cutting edge technology? The racing and overtaking? The pit strategies, "chess"-like element? The speed of the cars? The people and the personalities competing? The danger? The looks of the cars? The politicking and business side of things? Who knows, different eras of F1 were all about some of these things, and others about completely different things. They will naturally appeal to different people.

Maybe a real F1 fan is a guy who likes constant random change. I don't.

Bernie has changed his tune with regards to the new engines, pulled from an Autosport article ...

so... when every road car at production gets a hybrid or fully electric engine can we go back to see F1 racing with V12s?

see, 20 V12 petrol fueled engines are no danger if they're transported by electric trucks and solar powered motorhomes

If someone says F1 is not a very physical sport as they only have to turn the steering wheel for 90 minutes, then I go defensive... I guess that's because I am a fan, not?

You should take them out karting for just 15 minutes (ar a proper track with good material), that usually makes them talk differently.

They're as dumb as people who think oval racing is easy because they only turn left......

This is quite possibly one of the most idiotic conversations there has been on TBK. Probably more so than the masturbation thread.

We are ALL true fans, you know why?

Just look at the last conversations on this thread, from the penis-gate to the fandom-war. It's like crackheads talking.

We're all suffering from acute withdrawal symptoms during the off-season. And only true fans ever get that.

How DARE you belittle the masturbation thread. It was one of the best TBK threads in history. A truly inspirational moment.
