Last year was different as they had a competent driver around to paper over the cracks.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

And by paper over the cracks, you mean be the fall guy?

Well, last year they had the "Yes we made mistakes but we still won seven races" approach. This year it's a "Checo did a great job to get P9".

On that note, is it just me that finds Whitmarsh calling him 'Checo' really uncomfortable?

Well, 2012 was a catastrophic failure. They made snatching losses out of the jaws of victory a habit. 2013 is just a mess. 2012 is worse, because the 2013 situation can improve.

The STRs have already moved ahead. Next up are the Saubers (or the one being driven by the F1 calibre driver, anyway).

Still, I suppose it is the same for Jenson. Last year he couldn't match the lead Caterham at Monaco, this year looks like being more of the same, possibly.

Just found this quote from Jenson after qualifying...

"But every year we go racing, so far as I've been here, we've won a lot of grands prix. Last year we won seven, which was as many as the people who won the championship."

The thing is in race pace it isn't too bad. But even with a fast car, Lotus showed last year how difficult it is to win when you don't qualify well. McLaren has an okay car but neither driver is a great qualifier.

Of course, McLaren should have the fastest car, not be satisfied with the top 10. I know it's simplistic but I'd forget about the 28 and focus on the 29. If you're going to royally fuck up a car, make sure it doesn't fuck up the next one. That said, McLaren in the 21st century does have a habit of fucking up...

Race Director should just focus on Giedo and Jules tomorrow at the start.

and the part where they were good at, namingly in-season development, seems to have gone down the drain as well.

I heard Ron Dennis was demoted from his position to a lower function by the shareholders at Mclaren Automotive. Maybe with the extra time he can give some more attention the racing department?

Hamilton has made one of the best decisions of his career. Mercedes has a great car this year and McLaren is crap. And Hamilton's demeanor and driving is as good as ever.

Love that fact that everyone said he made the wrong move only based by money, and now he is showing them otherwise. Especially sweet that it has proven Whitmarsh is even shittier than we already thought.
