I have a feeling this was bad for MotoGP. Tires that can't go half distance, race shortened twice, ridiculous penalties, confusion after the race on who came second. Imagine if that rain had started laps earlier

I thought the race was pretty entertaining. This is sweet karma on Bridgestone following what went on at Indy in 2005. At least MotoGP tried (and achieved) in putting on a race. In the end it was Honda who messed up and cost Marquez, not MotoGP.

It was Honda's fault, but the decision to penalise Pedrosa (in turn, a penalty that dropped him behind a ride due to be black-flagged!) was ridiculous and appeared plucked from the air and the decision to extend the pit lane speed limit was dangerous.

Just seen the race, how can you mess up on which lap to pit? Glad the championship is exciting again now, in the end that close championship will heal the damage done by this little farce of a race.

You can't compare this with Indy 2005. Totally different.

But I think you can't compare it, because there was no other tyre supplier here who had no problem.

And what does that matter?

The point here is that this is karma for Bridgestone's own actions of Indy 2005. A mistake was made by a manufacturer when misinterpreting the track data and bringing rubber that was insufficient for purpose. The racing and credibility of the series suffers as a consequence. Now am I taking about Indy 2005 or Phillip Island 2013?

F1 also tried to race in 2005, but Michelin refused to take blame on wrong tyres. The only thing Michelin did was to blame Bridgestone/Ferrari.

Since when did Michelin ever blame anyone else for their mistake at Indy 2005? Bridgestone and the teams that ran those tyres refused point blank to compromise toward the good of the sport. Which is ironic considering what they did today.

Michelin did everything to blame the FIA and others instead of themself in the raceweekend. Later, they apologise for the situation.
Michelin could start the race, but they had to stop a couple of times in the race, and there was a possibility of not go full speed in the last corner.
There was no reason for Bridgestone to accept other things. Michelin just made a mistake, why should Bridgestone accept to change the rules to benefit Michelin?
Bridgestone had a lot of troubles in the begin of the season (remember all those punctures for MS at Barcelona). Did Michelin propose to change the rules to help Bridgestone?

Michelin proposed multiple solutions to prevent the race becoming a farce and no, they did not blame anyone else other than themselves. Michelin's proposals, supported by the entire Michelin brigade as well as Jordan and Minardi, were to make sure the race happened and whatever proposal was accepted the Michelin teams would be at a competitive disadvantage to the Bridgestone teams.

Bridgestone and their teams (bar Jordan and Minardi) said no, because their product was suitable for use and they had no reason to compromise. FIA said no, for fear of litigation from anyone in the US.

As for Schumi at Barcelona, that was an isolated incident and not a complete catastrophic issue with the entire product Bridgestone brought to that event that potentially put all their runners at increased risk.
