Duo, just Strauss and Reip :p Chiyo comes from the Japanese single seater & Super GT ranks, and was pretty damn fantastic last night. Well, all three of them were.

WARNING: FOOTAGE COULD BE DISTURBING FOR SOME VIEWERS

Fortunately non-graphic (but still pretty shocking) onboard footage of the roo hit early in the race. You can hear the driver, who sounds like someone who's just had a traumatic experience, so that is also a bit disturbing.

Apparently he had to go to the hospital for a couple of hours after the accident, so I suspect perhaps he had some minor injuries or was in a state of shock.

Footage of the 2nd place battle that the tv coverage missed. Watch in fullscreen/HD, otherwise hard to clearly make out what happened, which is, the Aston administered a nice bump n run on the Bentley.

Ok I kept this bottled up.

Great race - ruined by the race director, and it was that way before they even started.

Firstly, under any other series, the Nissan is not an Am car, it is a Pro Am. This event is the only one that ignores the classifications and for some reason they decided the Nissan was a purely Am car, despite all 3 drivers being works Nissan drivers, and Chiyo has won races in Super GT and F3. He isn't even remotely close to a GT rookie. Why was that car downgraded to an Am entry? To get a race win?

Secondly, there was an overbearing feeling of anti-Bentley throughout the race. The Mercedes turned in on the Bentley and the Bentley was penalised. For simply being where the Mercedes wanted to be.

Thirdly, Bentley was then given a warning for blocking, despite only moving off line once and not weaving - something we seen a lot of during the race with no penalties.

Fourthly, the Nissan broke the restart rules. The same rules the Bentley was penalised for. It,was overlapping another car and that isn't allowed.

Lastly, the Aston punts the Bentley out of the way at the final corner, a move far worse than anything the Bentley committed, and no penalty was given.

I also have to question the balance of the cars. Radio Le Mans talked about the SLS being too fast down the straights, and literally whilst they talked about it, the Nissan drove right passed one in a straight line. Given the cars downgrade in classification, it felt very much like they wanted that car to do very very well.

Not quite up there with the corruption and incompetence of IMSA or NASCAR, but this was not a very well officiated event. Given how quickly this event has gained popularity (and rightly so, it's an amazing race), they need to watch themselves.

From what I saw, most of it was behind safety car.

Iono, but I still prefer the 1000.

There's going to be an Australian Endurance Championship (by the looks of things, possibly for GT cars) from next year, which I imagine could end up comprising this race.

Ah, they're finally admitting the 12 Hour is better so they're gonna try and take it over?

They're scared of the growing popularity of GT racing

They should be more scared that their own product is attracting less viewers through being increasingly dull, too expensive and on fucking pay tv.
