And I am sure David Gilliland is still trading very well on the fact that he won a Daytona 500 pole. No-one made a big deal out of that.

Or even Milka starting on the front row yesterday. No-one gave her credit for that.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

He's still got a fulltime ride, so yeah.

But you're right, a trained monkey could beat 45 other drivers and teams including 5 teammates in equally competitive equipment, there's nothing special about that and it will be soon forgotten as everyone knows it's the Watkins Glen and Sears Point winners who go down in history in NASCAR.

Yeah no one's saying that. There's a difference between what people here are saying and what you see in your average youtube comment.

Not my words. Dale Jr's. I think he knows a little bit about RP racing.

And, yes, if you trained the monkey (or the dog) to the same standard as the rest of the drivers, and if you put them in a car with an engine from the best programme, then they would certainly have a respectable chance of winning pole. The difference is that when it came to the race, the monkey would wreck half the field within the first lap.

No-one is denying that the drivers in NASCAR are talented. No-one is saying that Danica does not have talent. But qualifying at these two tracks is not a test of driver skill in the same way that it is at every other track, simply because the engines are restricted and the track surface is brand new.

Well since we haven't seen any trained monkeys or non-professional drivers win pole at Daytona, I feel pretty safe in calling that statement absolutely retarded (regardless of whenever Dale Jr might have said it) until we see it. As is the suggestion that it's not an accomplishment (not "true test of driver skill", you said accomplishment).

Interestingly, Dale Jr. not on pole, despite its apparent ease ...

In other news, I'd just like to say that I think it's nice to see Terry Labonte still racing.

It's nice, but a trained monkey could also still be racing ...

In fairness, a trained monkey probably could do the same job Labonte did in the Unlimited last night. :p

Fair enough. It is, by it's literal definition, an accomplishment.

Although, if she reaches the end of her career and it is still the most high-profile accomplishment she has, it will be seen as a flop. Especially when the likes of Johanna Long move up into better equipment.

If I can remember correctly a trained monkey could also drive the 1993 Williams according to a certain someone.

That was a reference to the 1992 Williams...

I know it is chilly down there but the Crowd there is a major disappointment.

They were actually giving away tickets in the Sprint setup in the midway for giving the correct answer to trivia questions. Makes me wish I hadn't payed $50 for mine. Wearing a jacket, hat and gloves and still froze my ass off. Can't wait for the 500. Sitting in the sun will be a welcome feeling.

Oh, and I caught this (1:50 in)
