Bottom right is the only Lewis I see. I'm interested to know which one you think is the other one!

Red Bull has cut its junior team to just three drivers: Carlos Sainz Jr (who will race for DAMS in FR3.5), Alex Lynn (who will race for Carlin in GP3) and Pierre Gasly (who will race for Arden in FR3.5).

Remind me Phil, who has been cut from the program then? Da Costa?

Technically yes, but he's still with Red Bull but no longer a junior.

Kvyat because he's part of STR means he's no longer a junior.

The others were Callan O'Keefe, Beitske Visser and Tom Blomqvist.

In other news, Eddie Irvine sits on the fence again

Thanks Phil. So 1 promoted (2 in actuality, with Da Costa being Red Bull supported in DTM) and 3 dropped. Are Gasly and Lynn both new to the program?

Yes.

It's interesting to see Red Bull cut down from six to three though. More in line with other junior outfits (IIRC Ferrari has four young drivers, Lotus four and McLaren now two)

Indeed. I saw a recent article about Ferrari's junior program and that they will be testing Simona Di Silvestro (in addition to Jules Bianchi and a couple of others), but it didn't say what they would be testing.

That's the new Ferrari winter series. It takes place over four rounds in Florida in January/February.

Here's the press release:
Spoiler:
Maranello, 13 December –The list of participants for the first Florida Winter Series is beginning to take shape. It’s a championship supported by the Ferrari Driver Academy, aimed at professional racing drivers who want to prepare as well as possible for the challenges that await them in the 2014 season.

Naturally enough, among the first to put their names down were drivers from the Maranello Academy, such as Lance Stroll, Antonio Fuoco and Raffaele Marciello.

Jules Bianchi will also take part in one of the four events, fitting it in with his duties linked to the development of the Marussia F1 car. The event runs in Florida from 22nd January to 19th February. Also taking part in one of the races will be Swiss driver Simona De Silvestro, who is a front runner in Formula Indy.

Also planning to tackle the new and original way of preparing for the coming season are a handful of talented youngsters such as the winner of the Spanish F3 Open Series, Ed Jones, and drivers from the FIA European Formula 3 Championship, Dennis Van de Laar, Nicola Latifi and Louis Sa Silva. Also there will be Alex Bosak, who raced against Fuoco in Formula Renault 2.0 Alps and Leonardo Pulcini from the world of karts.

What makes this programme special is that the drivers are not just involved in the usual activities linked to track action, such as briefings with the engineers, free practice, qualifying and the race, but they also get to know just what makes their car tick, as the FDA’s director, Luca Baldisserri explains.

“By taking part in in the Florida Winter Series, we want the drivers to increase their experience in all sectors and that, particularly for the very youngest, they start to tackle all the difficult aspects of this job. For example, we will ask them to support the mechanics as they work on assembling and dismantling their cars, thus increasing their practical mechanical knowledge. It’s the best way to understand how what they do out on track can affect the work that goes on in the pits.Furthermore, in between races there will be time not only to fine tune their physical preparation in pleasant weather, but also to work with the engineers on analysing the data and, no less important, to share their experiences with drivers from different backgrounds.”

Thinking about the double points. Actually its a big joke that only works if the current #1 gets into trouble.
If, under normal points #2 needs to win and #1 cannot finish higher than 4th, it changes nothing if double points are awarded.

It only makes somewhat of a difference if the gap is >25 points and #1 has a better score in 1st, 2nd etc etc. What we might see is that the 2nd driver of the chasing team knocks out the current WDC Leader so #2 can take the title. But if that happens, the #2 of the other team will take him out.

Yes that's the one, thanks for finding the press release. Information on what the series is, is still lacking. But anyhow here is the series website - http://floridawinterseries.com/

And WTF is "Formula Indy"?

that's how the brazilian press calls IndyCar Series

since F1 is the pinnacle everything else is called "Formula something"

WEC was once called "Formula Le Mans", national truck series is called Formula Truck and it goes on

This have been overlooked in the forums around but it can be a quite important factor in a possible close pack throughout the whole year.

I guess he was ordered to remove it for PR reasons.

In fairness, punctures do always happen, but it's not good PR.

It depends on the cause of the puncture. Just because the tyre failed doesn't automatically mean Pirelli is at fault. We don't know any details and it is likely no details will be released because this is a private test. For all we know Rosberg and Mercedes were on a long run and the tyre was near the end of it's useful life, or perhaps Rosberg had a lock up somewhere thus causing a stress to the tyre and casing, or perhaps he ran over some debris or something else.
