Yeah I feel for him. What is the point of being signed as the official reserve driver if you're not going to be used as just that?

I think you'll be completely wrong judging by Kovalainen's practice pace at the moment. I think he can even score a podium if he has a normal weekend with no penalty's, car trouble or incidents. His pace is very good.

Even though I don't rate Valsecchi highly, I feel gutted with this.

Kova is impressing, so, going this way, no ride for Davide at Brazil, as he hoped. Poor guy!

As expected, Quantum still haven't completed the contract.

Allison & Newey expecting reliability problems in 2014
http://www.f1zone.net/news/leading-figu ... 014/21153/

Seeing as after three years Red Bull still suffers with their KERS, they should be slightly concerned.

A decent read on reddit which attempts to explain just who these Quantum people are.

Sounds like the shady Shannon Racing that killed off Forti. Lotus need to steer well clear of this guy or well lose another team.

I'm amazed that if any of that is true, that Lotus hasn't done any research and is simply 'hoping' it's true. If that is the case, they probably need the money more then they let on to believe the public...

Lotus was screwed the moment Danny Bahar got involved. He should have taken the easy route and let Fernandez pay for the use of the name and take the free publicity instead of spending millions Lotus didn't have.

I know this Lotus only shares the name of Lotus cars but it went wrong there. Renault should have picked someone else.

The money is just 'resting' in his account.

Good point here about 2014's power units
http://www.espn.co.uk/blogs/motorsport/ ... 35869.html

Now that's been said, expect 100% reliability :p

Nice article and writing style by Kate Walker

Just as an add info regarding 2014 PU. It's been rumoured that during simulations in Barcelona track, the engines provide laptimes 6 seconds slower during the race.

IndyCar, F.R 3,5 and GP2 will fight for "which is the fastest cars of the world?" next year :p

I'm not entirely sure about the consequences of the 2014-regs, but I suppose the LMP1's should be getting reasonable speeds as well.

Taking each series fastest lap of the race, you have LMP1s being slower than F1s by:

12s in Shanghai
8,5s in COTA
6s in Interlagos (picking F1 data from 2011 race as 2012 was rainy)
10s in Silverstone and Spa

LMP1 will have narrower tyres next year, albeit I don't know if their new PUs will make them faster. I also don't know if they will have any modification in the rules regarding aerodynamics

Besides the engine factor, next year F1s will have some restrictions on aerodynamics(narrower FW, shallower RW) and much lower grip tyres.

Some overall 8s is a good guess I would say in laptime increase.

Are GP2 cars staying the same? I think FR 3,5 will but their engine have only 530HP while GP2's currently have 612. I never heard anything regarding a change on GP2s, so maybe their race laps can be quicker than F1s :p

having said that, no, not gonna happen. They would never allow this to materialize, if the engines would make them this much slower, they would change GP2 cars too to keep F1s faster, simply because there is no logic whatsoever in a lower series being faster than the "pinnacle of motorsport"

For some reason I thought we were just talking speeds rather than full lap quickness. My mistake!
