Again, an F1 is not a bicycle. Driving under influence leads to damage and injury, no matter the drug.

It's good to control the drivers (for their own sake!), but any potential cheaters know they're better off trying to tweak the mechanic rather than the human inside.

so you can go down a hill at 100km/h on a bicycle with posts, guard rails, trees, dressed with nothing more than a lycra suit and a polystyrene helmet under influence but you cant drive a F1 ??? :tumble:

It's not the same influence ;)

I am no expert but muscular fitness drugs generally don't impair judgment, unlike the "neurological" kind a driver would use.

<-- To be fair though, when I look at my avatar I always wonder what the heck are these guys on :p . Speed itself is the worst drug. It makes the brain release endorphins and happiness hormones, making you addicted to that feeling.

It is with great sadness that today we report the death of Lady Virginia Williams, wife of Williams Founder and Team Principal Sir Frank Williams.

Lady Virginia, or ‘Ginny’ as she was better known, died peacefully at the family home last night surrounded by Frank and the rest of the Williams family. Ginny had been bravely battling cancer for the past two and a half years.

Ginny will always be an integral part of Williams’ history and success, and today we pay tribute to a much loved member of the Williams family who will be sorely missed. Please respect the family’s wishes for privacy at this time.

I say this with all sincerity but I have often wondered how much longer Frank has left in him. He just keeps looking frailer and frailer everytime I see his picture.

Generally speaking, cycling doping incidents are either drugs used to boost their cardiovascular capability (eg EPO, clenbuterol) or are steroid related; these do not impair judgement, no.

But, these are also are not things that I think would help drivers one bit.

The only thing I could even think a driver would consider taking would be stimulants (for reaction time), and racing is so much more than a reaction time thing (plus stimulants have lots of issues), that anyone with sense probably wouldn't bother.

It's like Tomas Enge losing his F3000 title after testing positive for marijuana. I can't think that would have given him any advantage at all. Possibly a disadvantage if anything!

Recently read that he's currently banned again. Shame he didn't learn his lesson (unless it's true that the positive results were from medication).

I think, in Enge's case, the banning was indeed mainly to provide the security of everyone involved on track. I have never smoked pot, but I can imagine that having that in your body at 300kph isn't really the best thing in the world in terms of reflexes.

His current case is indeed his word against the others. Medication or not, it was a banned substance. He's always been a bit dodgy.

Formula 1 has already been linked to Dr. Fuentes by someone who knows what they are talking about, so it's not surprising to see the WADA suddenly get off their arses with regards to F1.

Formula 1 currently does not have it's own list of banned substances; it simply copy and pastes the IOC list. It was Sid Watkins who said that the IOC list was not suitable for the job (as there are substances on there which would not do anything for F1 drivers), and that the FIA needed to come up with its own list.

It's a good point from the late dr. Watkins, but since it's been over a decade without any actions what so ever, I think it would be better to go as the things are. I'd hate to see when the levee breaks with F1 doping-scandals from the past in a Lance Armstrong style. I'd rather be in denial or unaware...like Norwegians are with their 90's skiing legends.

Oh snap.

Seems we may not be seeing anything from Marussia next weekend as they haven't signed a deal allowing FOM to broadcast images of there cars or drivers :?

I hope so, couldn't care less about late HRT, Marusia and even Caterham. If they are not shown, then it's more time covering the teams that really matter(to me obviously, I can imagine many would think otherwise).

Yeah, but when the safety car comes out and they don't show why, there'll be lots of conspiracy theories on here as to whether a Marussia spun or they just thought the race needed more excitement

I would assume he means every turn with run off. Still leaves turn 4 so he's not 100% right, but close.
