they're racing at this new Thailand track this weekend, doesn't look too bad. Its not Tilke I think.

90 degrees corners everywhere with some occasional hairpins, definitely a Tilke track.

btw this series has terrible safety standards even today.

JP de Oliveira nearly crashed into rescue car at Fuji in May.

They didn't repair the guardrail after Iwasaki's huge accident at Autopolis.
(The race was restarted in 9 laps to go.)

The race itself was pretty good, but I'm worried about their safety aspects.

Japan in general is pretty lax on safety.

Interesting news. I wonder if Kovalainen is the most successful F1 driver ever participating?
One reason the look forward to this season.

Ralf Schumacher raced there during the early JGTC years, but that was before F1.

Kovalainen is probably the most successful driver to race in Super GT after F1

Arguably. Ralf Schumacher ran there in 1996. If we count in Super GT's predecessor, HELL NO were any of them the most successful F1 drivers participating. I think Jacky Ickx would top them both...

It's not like Super GT is on the look-out for more "stars" either...

The Japanese love Kovalainen, so he'll be a crowd drawer

God Japan may be weird as fuck but they have motor racing bang on. They do it how it should be done.
