They should have put the DRS zone AFTER the hairpin so they can overtake into the Mercedes turn easier. Spectators would love it actually. They wanted more spectacle for spectators, but they don't help by choosing the only real overtaking spot on the track. Making one more overtaking zone would help a hell lot more than "improving the existing one.

shut up kals, they have put it on the only place on the circuit where it was not needed, after the race this topic will be one big complain about DRS making it too easy. And everyone will be right.

and when it doesn't deliver you'll be complaining about the lack of overtaking ...
don't forget that china, for example, has a huge straight and everyone was complaining beforehand that DRS would make it too easy to pass. it turned out DRS was in fact perfectly placed and allowed for the brave to overtake.

That's a little harsh and unneccessary don't you think? Just because I don't want to jump on the "must complain about DRS in every race thread" bandwagon, it doesn't mean I should shut up. I'm with Tobias on this one.

No need to project the DRS-Rage onto others. Fact is, DRS seems out of place once again, but we can only judge that during the race.

Yes it seems out of place, but that's no guarantee that it is. I'd prefer to wait until the race (as you say) before complaining about how bad it is. That is, if it is in fact in the wrong place.

And besides, I don't recall any DRS-rage in my first post.

This is a good idea. If someone gets passed in the hairpin, they can crossover and combine better traction + DRS to try to get it back. It could give some crazy side-by-side racing through the fast kink and further Moy/Kimi craziness all the way to the stadium.

In any case, given this track's history and how this season has been going so far, I wouldn't worry too much about this race. There will definitely be some action.

the straight after the hairpin is no way fast enough to profit significantly from the use of DRS.

I' thought about the DRS zone at Hockenheim before: where else to put it?? Start/Finish straight is way to short and the fast turn 1 is not really a potential overtaking spot. The straight after turn 1 looks to be too short. The straight after the hairpin on the way down to the Mercedes arena might be a good spot but the kink there might be a problem.

Get rid of the Mercedes arena, put the DRS zone on the resulting straight. Problem solved.

Exactly, there is not really a good place to put it if it's not in the area they put it. If we were in the old circuit, there would be lots of spots for that hehehe good old Hockenheim.

DRS doesn't have to produce passes. It can be used to close the gap. Why not put it between T1 and T2 to close the cars up and give them a chance at a natural pass into the hairpin?

Hockenheim doesn't even need DRS.

Of course, that's why 2010 was such a stunning race. As was 2008, bar Lewis Hamilton.

I was gutted Piquet didn't win since it would have been such a completely and utterly ridiculous result.

I remember seeing somewhere that someone is going to change the gearbox for Hockenheim, losing 5 places in the grid, who it was?

Thanks! Just hope he won't screw it up in the start. Grosjean is a great driver, but he had many problems at the starts and the first laps this year, he needs to calm down a bit in the starts.
