I think IndyCar should've never accepted the monopoly plan presented by Dallara, what makes automatically Barnard and Dallara two "morons" altogether. That's bad for the sport, they're trying to make a timeless monopoly on IndyCar. Everybody knew that the aero kit idea, though ideologically good, would represent an excessive increase of costs, as a result of that teams will keep not wanting to adopt the kit (teams are trying to deny the kit for another year) and Dallara reigns alone again in the series chassis. I think that was a strategic miscalculation that level down the series.

It may bump up the costs, but they're nowhere the levels of NASCAR or F1 when it comes to R&D costs. The only way to get to that level is to open up the rulebook.

Bernard will eventually drop a pair and announce aerio kits to be legal. Whether you use them, your problem.

Funny thing in all this is Roger Penske saying not 2 weeks ago how good the aero kits will be for the series.

Teams should be given no power. They are there to run in the series, and if they don't want to then they can leave - which they won't, because there isn't an alternative. IndyCar needs to put its foot down more often and tell them how it is.

Conquest in ALMS, Andretti rumored to start a NASCAR team. There's another problem: there are alternatives.

ALMS is hardly an alternative right now - they have a car count of about 4, and they are struggling to balance them anyway. Don Panoz is at the point where he'll consider making a class for the DeltaWing just to add a car to it. Hell, take Caspars Renault down, bolt a wing on and Don will make you a class. ALMS is struggling and it isn't looking like it'll turn round any time soon, especially with WEC around. NASCAR is busy shooting itself in its own feet, with tanking ratings and horrible racing. And just ask Chip about running a NASCAR team. Andretti would get half the exposure in NASCAR.

There really isn't a very good alternative.

I'm curious what the ratio is between cost and income of NASCAR vs Indycar? It's easy to say NASCAR is far more expensive, but just as if not more relevant to the teams is the revenue potential from sponsors, winnings, etc.

Only in Sprint Cup is there any money. The other two National Touring series are pitiful.

I suspect the team owners that are bitching about the aero kits are the ones who have no money to being with. Penske, Ganassi and Andretti have cars full of sponsors. Roger would, has, and will continue to, spend whatever it takes to run up front and I think Chip and Michael probably will to.

Andretti wants more clout so he's saber rattling. If Randy lays down the law, the sheep will return to the field or be eaten by wolves. Their choice.

Having a car full of sponsors doesn't necessarily mean they have a bucket load of money available, for Ganassi especially it could just be a simple "three for one" deal on the Cup car (i.e. spend $10Mill on the Cup car and we'll paint our Indycars in your colors too for an extra $1Mill).

Izod likely leaving IndyCar

Quote:
The IndyCar Series has "begun searching for a potential replacement for its title sponsor, Izod, three years before the sponsorship is set to end," according to Tripp Mickle in next week's SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. IndyCar execs have "approached current series sponsors and brands about becoming the presenting sponsor of the series in a deal that would make them title sponsor at an undetermined date." The companies already approached include Verizon and Firestone, two existing partners, and "one company outside its collection of sponsors with the proposal." IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard said that the series "still has a long-term deal with Izod that runs through at least 2015," and added that the sales effort is "designed to prepare the series for the future by helping IndyCar secure long-term sponsorships in the technology and tire categories and the funding it needs to expand the number of races it holds." IndyCar’s search "follows an executive change at Izod parent company Phillips-Van Heusen Corp." Longtime President & COO Allen Sirkin, who supported the IndyCar deal, is retiring, and sources said that his replacement as COO, current PVH CFO and Exec VP/Finance Michael Shaffer, "has been less enthusiastic about the more than $60 million deal Izod signed in 2009." Sources said that Izod pays about $6M to IndyCar annually in rights fees and spends an additional $5M annually on media and activation. The company has a minimum of three years left on its deal, but Bernard "would not say whether Izod would fulfill that obligation" - Sports Business Journal June Issue

On another note, that would probably also mean Izod out with Penske.

Starting grid in Iowa will be determined by the 30 lap short races. Could be fun!

So Pocono or a second Texas race? Both would be good actually.

I'm not shedding a tear. Good thing IndyCar has considered an oval as a replacement.

Haven't they learned anything from ChampCar,lol.

Pocono would be freaking awesome, but wasn't there a problem with the track surface? Or have they repaved it?

I would go to Road America, tbh :p

Pocono would be awesome. Elkhart Lake was mentioned in that news bit too and I wouldn't mind if they would go to either track. Texas would also be nice.

I'd love to see Laguna Seca back too. It may not have the best passing opportunities but it simply belongs on the schedule.
