He wont as he has his new play thing - F4 - and I'm not sure how that's going as I've heard rumors some of the teams are struggling for drivers. With FFord looking at 28-30 cars this year it looks like the only national single seater championship in strength in Britain

Just looked at the F4 website and there are 7 drivers confirmed for that.

The problem F3 has globally is that drivers have too much choice for their $$ with similiar'ish speed series. GP3 and F2 for instance race on GP circuits, run a not too similar speeds and are cheaper.

That and the title British F3 or European F3 just dosen't have the same clout anymore like it did 5 or so years ago.

Interesting point from someone on Atlas; both FRenault UK and British F3 are\were run by SRO.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

So in the past three years SRO have managed to slowly kill off...

- Formula Renault
- FIA GT
- British F3

That's good going.

So much history. That would be a real shame. I started going to F3 meetings several years ago, but more recently I've preferred the British GT part of the schedule.

I heard somewhere that the British Formula Ford will have new wings on. A possible replacement for the British F3?

But it is a bit of a step back though.

It does:

It's looking very good for FFord this year. 18 cars confirmed so far.

I wouldn't call it a step back. More an evolution.

I call it a shame the tradition of mechanical grip was lost.

This f3 situation reminds me when the European f3 was revived last time about 10 years ago.
British f3 suffered then, sadly not to this extent but it suddenly the series worth watching was stuck on paychannels and the one I could see had a lot more boring races.

Hope someone out there decides its worth saving.
Probably not Berger

EuroF3 was only put together as entrants in Italian, French and German F3 were struggling in numbers. Similar to how European Touring Cars were formed.

I'm amazed at how rapidly British F3 has gone downhill, grid numbers weren't great last year but they weren't terrible. I'm surprised they've decided to reduce the calendar so drastically, I would have thought cutting out the international rounds and just following British GT around, with the reduced budget required might have been a better option - now I can't see why anyone would bother to enter the championship.

The good that might come from this in future might be for Brit F3 to be a proper and affordable national series again instead of trying to emulate a European series.

Amazing to think only a few years ago British gt was down to a scarily few number of cars and f3 was thriving and now it's the exact opposite.

Are channel 4/motors going to bother showing the british f3 lite this year?

Meh, BF3 made their own bed. If you want to be a national championship quit having races at Spa, Zaandvort, and Pau and bring them back to Croft, Knockhill, and Pembrey/Mondello Park. They reached to far and started catering solely to Fortec and Carlin. They tried to be the Euroseries, that was never going to work.

A minor point I know, but British F3 races in Europe have dated back the past three decades. Both Zandvoort and Spa have been on the calendar in various seasons since the eighties.

It probably would help to keep the costs down. I have to say that I loved the racing at Monza, though...
