Despite my earlier proclamation that I would not be going back to Oswego before the 200... I went Saturday night for the $10K to win race...

Last 5 laps...

One of the Top 5 best Supermodified races I've ever seen there.

Super DiRTcar highlights from Merritville

2 money races for the Legend Cars here in the Carolinas area here in next week, Friday at Anderson with the new Xtreme Racing Series and Saturday at Kenly (INEX National Qualifer). Both are $1000 to win. Last time I remember seeing a big purse race for the Legends in my area was 2011 or 2012

Any of you northeast dirt guys following the John Scarborough saga? Seems like he is finally getting what he deserves...

Yeah, Johnny the Jet may have finally burned one too many bridges. Unfortunately someone will give a second chance, or third, or fourth, or...I forget what chance he's on at this point.

More like the 23rd...

What a mess that is. My good friend is the race director at Glen Ridge... Ugh.

Anderson was fun last night. :D

They had a 50 lap, $1000 to win Legends race. About 25 cars started. Less than 15 finished after two 25 lap segments. Two Florida boys, Michael Torres and Jordan Black finished 1-2 respectively.

heard about Anderson, wanted to race in the Legends race but couldn't get anything put together for it in time. There aren't very many Legends races that pay anything remotely decent so they are rare.

In other news, car counts continue to drop at several MAJOR local area tracks in my region.

Something needs to be done soon before we lose more tracks here soon. One of the several problems this area has is that 85% of the tracks runs on Saturday nights and besides Bowman Gray, all of them run the same type of car too. That along has drivers and teams picking and choosing most of the time. Some will stay with their local track for a full season for a points championship but others try to run where the highest purse is that week. And even then it is hard for drivers to run more then 2 tracks in the region as each track has some different rules packages (several tracks run a combined LMSC/Limited class now due to low car counts) so some teams have to spend extra to run other tracks. While this area is lucky as hell for the amount of tracks within a 3 to 4 hour radius, it's starting to not look good for the future.

looked up all of the local pavement tracks results for this week as far as the top divisions running.

Saturday:
Bowman Gray - 22 cars (Modifieds, only track within a 300+ mile radius that runs the NASCAR style rules package on a Saturday night that I know of) and around 20 Sportsman cars
Myrtle Beach - 18 cars (Late Model Stocks)
Greenville Pickens - 17 cars (Late Model Stocks)
Langley - 14 cars (Late Model Stocks) (shows 1 extra car that didn't start ?)
Lonesome Pine - 13 cars (Late Model Stocks)
South Boston - 11 cars (Late Model Stocks)
Hickory - 9 cars (Late Model Stocks)
Caraway - 6 cars (Limited Late Models)
Coastal Plains - no information currently released

Friday:
Kingsport - 16 cars (Late Model Stocks)
ACE - 14 cars (Limiteds)

tracks that didn't run a major weekly division race: Anderson (Xtreme Legends, 25 showed), Kenly (Legends National Qualifier, 20 or so showed)

tracks that weren't racing at all tonight: Carteret County (season opener next month), Concord (no weekly program for half mile), Dillon (off), East Carolina (off), Florence (off), Motor Mile (off), Orange County (off), Shenandoah (off), Southside (off), Tri County (no weekly program), Wake County (off)

the track has been under construction for a while (I first heard about it in 2009, was a go-kart track in the 90's and the owner decided to built it into a 4/10th mile oval around 2000 to 2002) and they finally got it finished this summer.

I have heard of a few tracks in hotter regions like Florida or out west running in the winter as their primary season though.

There are 3 tracks in the running to take over Super DIRT Week according to Area Auto Racing News. Hearing it is Oswego (if city allows WRG to put dirt on the track for that weekend and if improvements are made), Rolling Wheels (if improvements are made) and Central New York Raceway Park (whenever it's built). Donnelly is also trying to get a SDS race at Rolling Wheels on September 3rd

Rain continues to fuck over Bristol Motor Speedway and the surrounding areas. Tonight's Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Bulls Gap, Tennessee is already postponed with no make up date currently announced.

No highlight vid, but Stewart Friessen (who's won everything he's touched this year) won the Mr. DirtTrack USA $17,500 to win Tuesday night at Lebanon Valley beating Brett "The Corporate Jet" Hearn when Hearn forgot to pay his fuel bill and ran dry with two to go. Hearn dominated the race but came up just short from his 3rd SDS win of the year. Good race overall.

Early plug, The Interantional Classic 200 at Oswego is less than two weeks away. Sept. 6th, the greatest race in SuperModfied racing returns to the Steel Palace for the 59th Annual Edition.

Back in the early 80s when NASCAR first created the Late Model Sportsman touring series (which later became the Busch Series), Late Model Sportsman was the premier division at many local short track in the mid atlantic. The promoter at Old Dominion Speedway came up with the Late Model Stock Car division as a more cost effective answer to the dwindling car counts in Late Model Sportsman, and now the same thing is happening with Late Model Stock Cars. They have become way too expensive and the only way tracks get decent car counts are if they have a big race or happen to be the only NASCAR track racing that weekend and pick up some of the teams chasing national points. Just a few years ago in Virginia there were four tracks, Langley, South Boston, Motor Mile, and Old Dominion that all raced LMSC on Saturday nights and any given race night at least three of them would have an LMSC race scheduled. At that time there were more than enough cars to go around and all the tracks had respectable car counts. Now Old Dominion is gone and between Langley, South Boston, and Motor Mile it's rare for there to be a race night in which any two of them are racing LMSC. Part of the problem is the CARS Tour as they have definitely pulled some of the travelling teams away from the local tracks, but still the cars are just too expensive these days and there aren't as many to go around. I had someone at Langley point out that there aren't really any blue-collar people who own Late Models, pretty much all of them own a successful business. The blue-collar drivers are still there, they just race other divisions now, like the Modifieds and Grand Stocks at Langley. I think someone needs to seriously find a way to make these cars cheaper or they'll continue to struggle to get good car counts.
