My highlight video from Langley Speedway on September 3, 2011. With no TV coverage for the Whelen Southern Modified Tour it was all up to me to capture the action from this event and there was plenty of it to be seen with this highly competitive field.

Is there another part of the forum to talk about dirt track sprint car racing or do I do it here?

I asked a similar question a while back... Since there's only about 4 of us that sort of keep up with what's going on with the Sprints, just do it here.

Found an article with more info about the "big late model race" they are holding at Auburndale in about two weeks. The Bryan Wescott Sr. Memorial 100.

-A total of 24 cars will race.
-The fastest 20 in qualifying are locked in and will line up where they qualified, exception being the top 8 who would draw randomly for their positions.
-Then the top 2 finishers in the 'B' main will be slotted in 21-22
-The Wescott family will determine the final two positions.
-The main event is a 100 lap race. The total payout for the race is $17,750
$5000.00 grand prize to the winner. $3000 to 2nd, and $1500 to 3rd.

Good stuff. I crewed on a car that ran the Southern race at Thompson, we used a WSMT team's number for points since they didn't make the trip. NASCAR made a usual bad call in the race, but that should be expected.

When Langley Speedway rained out on Saturday I went up to Old Dominion Speedway for the first time to see their big 200 lap Late Model race, here's the highlights from Saturday September 18th:


Since this was the last weekend for NASCAR Whelen All American Series points Langley decided to run on Sunday. Philip Morris was on hand attempting to seal the deal on his 2011 National Championship, but it was rained out again yesterday. Luckily for Morris Rocco didn't score any wins this weekend, leaving Morris with the title.

Just got back from Auburndale a few hours ago. There were 23 late models so there was no LCQ race. The feature race was decent, but the story of the night was by far the last turn of the last lap.

Jeff Scoffield started the race from the pole after the invert. There were only a few minor accidents that slowed the action. The 100 lap race was ran in just under and hour. Scoffield nearly led wire-to-wire, but coming to the checkered flag, without any assitance, spun out off of turn 4. The entire top 10 was bumper to bumper right behind him. As he spun, the second place car #77 took evasive action through the grass on the front stretch, spinning across the line in first and nearly slamming head on into the front stretch wall. Anthony Campi in the #81 finished second, scoffield didn't even finish in the top 5.

But it's not over, come to find out, the #77 failed post race tech inspection and was disqualified, for what exact reason I do not know yet. If this is true then #81 Anthony Campi would be declared the winner and take the $5000 grand prize.

There was a small camera crew there shooting for a local sports channel (Bright House Sports Network.) I think they said the show was called "Lights, Camera, Traction." If I can find out when that airs I will try to record and upload it.

From what I can gather, here's how post race went. Wayne Anderson, #77, cleared tech but Rex Guy (the track owner) wanted Anderson to pull the motor so it could go under a further inspection. Anderson refused and Rex disqualified him. It sounds like a bunch of bullshit but I don't know the entire story. There's the chance his motor was illegal or hoad incorrect seals. Either way he had no advantage whatsoever over the rest of the field and only won because the leader broke in the last turn. Also, a link to all the pictures I took. I wanted to get right up to the fence during qualifying but one of the track officials said no spectators are allowed against the fence while cars were on track, so those were the best I could get. They did have an on track autograph session though so I did get some decent pics of most of the late models.

It's not good when the track owner is trying to call the shots in tech.

Unfortunately Langley Speedway did not get 18 races in this year due to numerous rainouts and many Langley drivers are considerably farther down the list than they should be.

The Ontario title got messed up a bit as well, as one of the tracks didn't have all their guys running with NASCAR licenses.

Went to Fulton Speedway last night for night one of the Outlaw 200 weekend, today's 200 lap modified race was postponed until tomorrow due to rain, forecast doesn't look much better for tomorrow. Racing action was great as usual, plenty of three and four wide racing, car counts were great, 26 Crate Late Models, 27 Mod Lites, 30 IMCA Modifieds, and 55 Crate Sportsman Modifieds, not often you get to see full fields in every class.

Unfortunately it may be the last race at Fulton, the town of Volney, which the track resides in, is set to enact a noise ordinance law that will restrict when the track can race, limiting it to the summer months. The track is trying to fight it with a petition and hopefully will be able to convince town officials to drop the law when they hold a meeting on the matter on the 13th.

This week is Super DIRT Week at Syracuse and the long term forecast looks good for the whole week, I'm planning on skipping the mile and hitting some of the other shows during the week, Weedsport on Wednesday, Brewerton on Thursday, and Five Mile Point on Saturday, should be fun.

It's that time of the year again, the best race of the year anywhere is upon us, the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville Speedway. I look forward to this race like I looked forward to Christmas when I was 10 years old.
Live coverage of the whole weekend will be on http://www.race22.com including today's practice sessions, tomorrow's practice and qualifying, and Sunday's heat races and feature race. So far it appears there's about 80 cars entered with a few more possibly coming today.

Damnit! I wish I'd read this before we left. We were at Brewerton on Thurs. Good race. Were on our way to Fulton for the 200 when we got the call it was a washout on Saturday.

This past weekend we were at the mile. Overall, the racing was some of the best I've seen on The Moody Mile. Friday night under the lights was awesome with the added Musco Lights they brought in. The officiating and tech was some of the worst I've seen at any racetrack anywhere. I mean seriously, seriously poor.

WRG has more or less destroyed what DIRT had built. DIRTcar is a joke.

Agreed, Brewerton was a really good race, and a great job by Ryan Phelps to win the race after flipping in hot laps. Weedsport was awesome, the 75 lap 358 Modified feature went green to checker with no cautions, and the racing in the first 40 laps was nothing short of incredible. Five Mile Point was packed, 80 Modifieds, 47 Street Stocks, 30 4 cyl., decent racing, but a little too long of a program, over 7 hours to complete.

I ended up going to the mile on Sunday since the weather was so good, good racing, the Pro Stock race was fantastic. The only call I questioned was not DQing Friesen for failing post race inspection and fining him instead. As much as I wanted to see Laubach leading after making a brilliant strategy call, I thought they got it right with penalizing him for speeding on pit road. It's just a shame that they couldn't have informed the announcers immediately so that there wouldn't have been any confusion in the stands.

WRG is certainly in trouble in the northeast, I imagine you will see more tracks going the independent route and/or aligning themselves with ROC for next season. I heard some interesting things this weekend from some reliable sources, the next couple years could see some big changes.
