They're going to cover the 2013 season in 3-D. That's my guess.

I never thought of that but many of the football matches are now in 3D so that would be logical.

I now feel stupid for making my earlier tongue in cheek post.

I have no idea either. I'm just trying to guess so I can be wrong tomorrow. And underwhelmed. Huge announcements always leave me underwhelmed.

won't be 3D unless they buy FOM some new equipment, maybe the channel is going FTV/FTA?

Can't see FOM going 3D anytime soon as by all accounts MotorSport doesn't work well with current 3D technology.

Also 3D hasn't exactly been embraced by us at home & I read recently that 3D in cinema has seen a big drop in interest recently.

I'm going with the 'Massive news' been that Eddie Jordan has moved over to Sky.

I remember people saying Indy 500, or some race, wasn't very good in 3D.

Not surprised that its interest is dropping at cinema's, gimmicks always die off.

No idea why he would want to, or why anyone on the BBC would try and go to Sky

And no, it's not a shot at the various quality of the two broadcasters, more that sky is pretty full up, pundit wise and he'd get a lot less screen time over there, and to a lot less viewers too. *shrug*

No, I'm going to dream big that Sky's MASSIVE news is that they've bought Motors TV and are going to bring the two channels side by side, Sky F1 and Sky Motorsports.
F1 stuff stays on F1 HD as usual but Motors channel becomes their outlet for GP2/3, Indycar, NASCAR,(all 3 series ) V8 Supercars, WRC (hell, someone has to show it!) Speedway, WTCC (bought off Eurosport for pittance because as much as they're invested in it, they hate motorsport ;) ) ) WSBR and everything else they can get their hands on.
(Not DTM....:p )

In no way will this ever happen unless Bernie decides to leave all his millions to me. But I can dream.

In reality it's probably that they've got a new logo or something. Or they've signed up Schumacher to sit alongside Damon and make nice. Or Ant and Georgie are dating.

I'm sure, like everything, it'll underwhelm.

Aren't they just acronyms for fuck the viewers / fuck the audience?

In which case, they've no need to announce anything because they're doing a pretty good job of this already.

Unfortunately Sky Germany will get a new lead commentator for the 2013 season as Jacques Schulz leaves the team...

Sky like to do that. As for 3D, that's dead in the water, even the manufacturers are starting to drop it, with 3D there's a mighty fine line between getting it right and making your audience puke, plus it really doesn't work too well for fast paced sports.

The manufacturers are trying to push out UHDTV asap, as they see that as far better for home use, plus in this economic climate, people are waiting till their TV dies before buying a new one rather than rushing out and buying the newest greatest model - 3D was doomed to failure even before it launched.

Sky's big announcement is that they will be showing the final Barcelona test live on SSF1 & in 3D.

It's kind of funny.

Sky could spend their money on WRC, IndyCar, single seaters further down the ladder - something that could help them in the long-run.

Instead they piss it away on trialling 3D.

Gotta say, this spoiled my mood big time when I got the news yesterday. The commentators were one of the reasons why I wanted to get Premiere many, many years ago. And now they're replacing him with Sascha Roos. Seriously, what the fuck.

And 3D is a quickly dying technology, so why bother with the investment?

The F1 Channel is cool but it needs stuff to fill it out. Putting IndyCar races in (live when possible) would be brilliant for it. But I wonder if part of the deal is that it is an F1 channel only, and only things on the F1 Weekend can be put in.

Almost every TV you buy now has 3D. All the channels in 3D? Yes I can have all channels in 3D with the 2D tot 3D convert option (which isn't great). There are only a handfull of 3D channels. I have 2, a demo channel and high TV. The 3D will look good in super slomo replays, but other than that it won't work for F1.
