Boy, those Bentleys. And green? Put a pic of the F1 Jaguar or Sauber.

That's how fucked up the driver ratings are.

Then you can't have Am class at all. Which would be great.

You could kiss elms/aslms and some wec teams goodbye then, that's where the funding comes from.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that amateurs shouldn't be allowed to compete, just that there shouldn't be an Am class. If the cars are all built to the same set of regulations, they should all be in the same class. The Am class is nothing more than a primary school sports day-style "everyone's a winner" charity class. They have no place in motorsport. Sub-classes should be based on whether or not the teams have factory backing, such as the way it is in LMP1 and touring car racing.

But you do away with a rating system and you lose a lot of interest from those bringing the funding because they can no longer be competitive. The rating system is flawed but I'd rather see a common sense approach to it in order to improve it than do away with it completely and end up with a handful of teams in each respective series who have the funding to pay for the best and dominate.

Your 2nd tier sportscar series survive on this system, I'd be all ears for alternatives but with some tweaking I don't see why the current one can't be improved.

Exactly. Maybe I have a bit rosy image of what would the grids end up looking like if Am was abolished, because it is not really my headache, but generally I don't like the "everybody wins" thing just like you mentioned and this has been now further diluted by teams taking advantage of loopholes and pretty much fielding same factory-prepped cars with as pro lineups as possible, so much that in races the cars have been totally mixed up. Which is healthier, two classes with 5 cars each or one big class?

If Am was abolished, there would be still some kind of a Amateur Cup prize like sometimes in the past, but only given at the end of the year and to the best drivers/team. No separate class and no podium presentations.

Unfortunately, this brings certain kind of "I told you" kind of satisfaction.
