Wait, so we have all these new LMP2's and in 2017 the rules will change again?!? If you want to reduce cost I suggest getting some stability in the rules first...

And just as Oreca has a new LMP2 ready. I thought they were among the most influental manufacturers around today?

I really hope the spec-engine talk will be abandoned soon.

Are costs really an issue in the current guise? The p2 grids are large with new teams joining the fold and the new cars along with the variety has been positive for interest in the series too. I'd take a punt that Nissan would become the engine supplier given their current popularity and French connections.

That 05 is damn sexy too, can't wait to have a play with it.

The first round of the African Endurance Series will be streamed live this weekend from Phakisa. 6 hour race. This is the race that the Pilbeam LMP2 will be in, also apparently on the entry list is an old Panoz Esperante GT2 car.

Doesn't seem as people are happy... except for VAG. It all smells a bit fishy...

Politics...

FIA/ACO doesn't want to upsed the group which owns 50% of the LMP1 grid and a third of GTE, TUSCC's premier class would be "safe" (in theory) for works-supported efforts and they won't be suffering an exodus of teams racing mainly in WEC/ELMS.

Dire times ahead. The only thing I saw coming was the spec tires, but as much as I'd like it to stay open, it's not that worrying.

Marshall Pruett calls it "bizarre" and he's damn right. The teams and manufacturers has to put their foot down on this.

That right there. The ACO want all the free thinking to be in the top tier P1 cars. Since IMSA got rid of P1, P2 is their default top tier and they have no reason to want to get rid of the diversity since they all ready have Ford, Chevy, Mazda and Honda playing ball in the prototypes to one degree or another.

It makes the WEC/Lemans a P1 playground while the U.S. (IMSA) will cater to everyone else.

Well, until the big players opt out after not seeing return for their investments at least. LMP1 is and always be a shaky business, while in IMSA all a manufacturer would have to do is to take a production based engine and slap it on a prototype to race as a factory team. Nothing wrong with it, but i don't like the ACO forbidding semi-works efforts in LMP2 like Nissan's. It's probably thanks to that preliminary LMP2 program that we have Nissan in LMP1.

As I read the mentioned article carefully, it doesn't look like they want to differentiate IMSA LMP2 from ACO LMP2, but rather to create two distinct top tier classes for the respective series (one is LMP1 and the other will evolve from LMP2), leaving spec-classes like the proposed LMP2 (WEC) and LMP3 (IMSA/ELMS) as the basis for the second-tier, privateer-only classes.

Stream for the African 6 hours..they are about 45 minutes in..Idk where the Pilbeam LMP2 car is but its nowhere near the fastest car there.

http://antfarmonline.antfarm.co.za/efx- ... =720&h=408

..As I say that the Pilbeam nearly runs over a Porsche 910.

#11 Juno CN won, Pilbeam was 20+ laps down from the overall winner.
