...Austin, Texas, which will host a super endurance race weekend with a race for the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) on Saturday and a WEC race on Sunday.

The season will begin in Silverstone on 14 April, which will also feature a separate race for the re-launched European Le Mans Series.

Let the flaming begin (Sebring). Would have been nice to have a last hurrah before the merger.

That's criminal for them to snub Sebring.

Petit Le Mans, too.

Don Panoz was pretty vocal about not liking WEC and P1s. So I'm not sure why anyone expected those races.

So we're not allowed to be disappointed it's not happening for a final time in 2013? Okay.

You can be if you want. You can also be disappointed that Santa isn't real. It's still what we all knew.

Bigger disappointment is how terrible the end of the calendar still is.

I don't think Panoz particularly cares about WEC not going to Sebring.

After the merger decision... he sure used to lick ACO's ass.

Quote:
A Sebring statement highlighted that its 12 Hours next March takes place a full month before the WEC opener at Silverstone, and said the schedule had been designed so that WEC squads could still compete in Florida.

Sebring president and general manager Tres Stephenson was bullish about his event's chances of attracting WEC squads.

"We are very encouraged about 2013," he said. "We have already received inquiries from WEC teams who wish to compete in next year's Sebring endurance classic."

WEC chief Gerard Neveu said Sebring was dropped so that all the WEC's non-European rounds took place after the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2013, and because of fears a joint WEC/ALMS entry would be impossible to accommodate.

"Imagine if we had 32 or 34 WEC cars and 35 in the ALMS," Neveu said. "It would be difficult to tell people that there was not room for everyone."

No, he was pretty negative about it a year ago. He never liked ILMC, and WEC is just the same with more FIA involvement. And as Hindy posted on Twitter.

@specutainment: Why surprise over #FiAWEC calendar? We have been saying since ILMC launch the plan was for 'stand alone' races. Sebring/PLM = Alms races ..

@specutainment: #FiAWEC Sebring 2012 proved that plan was right 1 race with 2 sanctioning bodies, 2 T&S, 2 TV, 9 classes & 12 podiums was my worst nightmare

As long as the race had 2 entry lists and 2 results lists, it was always going to cause a split unfortunately. However traditions need to start somewhere. Petit Le Mans is only 14 years old yet has become a classic. If WEC wants to have such events then they need to make there own classics. Making everything 6 hours makes it boring. Go throw in a 12 hour at the start and end and make your own classics.

John Dagys has had a bit of a moan about people breaking the embargo regarding Level 5s driver line up. But nobody knew there was an embargo (because it wasn't announced even privately) and this is the same guy who leaked the Grand-Am/ALMS merger early. :-\

Ha! Not a chance, no one there cares about motorsport. It's just the tyrants in power that want the race.
