Jimmie Johnson would like shorter Cup schedule

Quote:
Prior to practice Friday, Johnson was asked his opinion about shorter races and, in a grander scheme of things, a shorter Cup schedule. The circuit currently runs 36 points races each year, plus two special events.

“It’s a great idea,” Johnson said. “Maybe 25 races a year would be really good. Thirty maybe?”

I would like to watch a NASCAR race that doesn't suck.

Sometimes you can't always get what you want.

Shakey's Pizza Parlor on board with Earnhardt: Shakey's Pizza Parlor, one of the country's most popular pizza restaurants, has joined JD Motorsports with Gary Keller and driver Jeffrey Earnhardt for Saturday's Nationwide Series race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. Shakey's will be prominently displayed on the team's #4 Chevy for the TreatMyClot.com 300, the fifth race of the Nationwide season. Shakey's, based in Alhambra near Los Angeles, has 60 locations, most in southern California. Shakey's also has restaurants in Washington, Hawaii and Alabama. The restaurant, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary, is sponsoring a NASCAR team for the first time.(JDM)(3-20-2014)

Sort out the AERO! How hard is it to take away a load of downforce? (Front splitter. Gone. Rear spoiler. Smaller. Ride height. Raise it.) It makes the racing better. It makes the cars harder to drive. Oh, and guess what, they'll be running slower in the corners so no need to start reducing the power. How do these people have a job? :slaphead:

Those results don't surprise me. I knew Mike Joy was going to be up there as one of the best. Not surprised that DW's results were as mixed as they were.

Tapered spacer is a bad idea, but a totally new engine wouldn't be bad. I think reduction in horsepower is a great idea if they couple it with a reduction in aero dependency as well.

Do something a long the lines of the power that the IROC cars had.

And just because they said 'aero changes' doesn't mean MORE aero additions, hopefully it is reductions.

Example of what it could be like:

^^^ That is some of the best 1.5 mile track racing I've ever seen.

That is some good racing! I think a large reduction in aero would cause the speeds to drop quite a bit anyway. Not sure they'd need the power reduced as well.

If they keep the current cars but reduce the power considerably, the cars might be close to flat out around Atlanta, Texas, and Michigan.

I'm sure they'll find some way to introduce a push to pass button with this.

Nascar needs DRS.

Fold the spoiler down on the backstretches.

Boom. Confetti.

No love for Wally Dallenbach on here, either. I think he's great - he's knowledgable and well-spoken, and instead of being a joker, he's just sarcastic. He and Benny were an absolutely great combination in the booth, and I think Kyle Petty somewhat brings him down a notch.

Then again, you could pair Benny with a llama in the broadcasting booth and it would still be a great combination. :flag:

I actually like Andy Petree. I really thought the ESPN crew in the booth came together well last season. I don't really like Bestwick all that much, but Dale and Andy are a good combo. Too bad they're gone after this year.

I agree with Andre, I really liked the Bestwick/Benny/Wally days of NBC/TNT. The plate race calls were great. The ESPN crew never wowed me. No matter the combo. Seemed dull.

I liked TNT/NBC's coverage, especially when BP was there, and even afterwards.. I like Petty/Dallenbach. FOX is too overly-excited, is the best way I can describe it, and ESPN just seemed boring to me as well.
