I don't mind the changes too much mainly because I don't really give a shit anymore. I barely kept track of the points situation last year and I haven't really cared about who wins the championship the past few years at all, even though BK and JJ are my two favorite drivers lol. I'll still watch most of the races if I have nothing better to do, but honestly I don't care how ridiculous they make the championship because it no longer concerns me, I no longer really have a connection with Nascar. Now it's just sort of mindless entertainment for me. Basketball and football, along with Indycar and F1 are far more entertaining these days, imo.

I get what you're saying. The very existence of the Chase was infuriatingly retarded to begin with, and massively cheapened the meaning of the word "championship" altogether. I just find this latest stillbirth so frustrating because they seem to recognize that something has to change, yet the changes they make only make everything dumber by several orders of magnitude.

It's genuinely reminiscent of this:

Now now.. you can't really compare eras anyways. The points system for the majority of Petty's championships was way different, short fields, 40-60+ races per season, etc. The stuff is always evolving. A champion is someone who excels based on the rules presented and finishes first out of others competing in the same rules. Therefore all of the champions are legit, no matter the format.

The 'rules are same for everyone' saying is meaningless when the rules are total horseshit.

I can't say I'm surprised, but what a load of crap.

So it's possible to win 35 out of 36 races, and finish 4th in the championship?

The word "evolving" insinuates that something positive is going on. Let's just say that NASCAR's rule book is "dynamic".

As discussed before, this is a terrible way to decide a championship, however, I don't mind the idea of eliminations.
I actually find that entertaining.

If anyone seems interested, the "Final Four" last year would have been Johnson, Dale Jr., Harvick and Gordon.
Dale Jr. would have been declared champion at Homestead.

Someone has done the maths:

2011: Tony Stewart

2012: Kyle Busch

2013: Dale Jr

Now I understand why NASCAR wants it. They will try anything to get him a title.

Completely flawless logic right here.

If you guys think that the 88 wouldn't have choked hard under pressure at last years finale you don't watch NASCAR that much. It looks good on paper, but in the real world there would have been botched pit stops and a terrible setup.

Anyone who says that NASCAR changes the format for Junior is a complete idiot.

I wish Kenseth would retire so I could stop watching with no hesitation. Damn him.

You know, some of the stipulations in this deal is pretty exciting. The fact that no bonus points for leading laps at homestead makes it a true finishing position decision. (That could mean 40th, 41st, 42nd, and 43rd if they all wreck or blow motors lol.) And that winning in any stage automatically moves you to the next. Talladega is the last race to make the top 8. So really, even if 2 different guys win Kansas and Charlotte, if you're 9th-12th in the standings, or even 5th-8th with a chance to be knocked out... You are going for broke at Talladega and that should make for a wild finish. Plus once you're eliminated, they drop you back to the original 2,000 reset points plus whatever you earned per race, so you still have a legit points battle for 5th-16th. Highly unlikely, but you could make the top 8 but still fall to 16th in the final standings when it's all over.

Sure there is always the darkside of team orders and causing yellows to help a teammate out or wrecking out someone else. The more I read and it sets in, the more I think the races might be a lot more exciting..

I loved the points reset at the end of each stage, most of times the chasers were all but eliminated after 3 races. But Homestead will be nuts, and expect a lot of crazy finishes.

Anyway, anyone complaining of people going for points only can't complain now, some may start and park, but the race at the front will be awesome.

Well zippy, it really sort of makes the championship trivial but at the same time holy shit is it going to be a hectic race on the track between those 4!!
