NASCAR is doing a live video on the 2020 schedule at the moment.

Basically:
Homestead is no longer the finale. It moves to a March date
Martinsville is a night race on Mother's Day weekend
Pocono is a doubleheader
Indy moves to July 4th
Daytona is the regular season finale
Bristol is the playoff cutoff race
ISM(Phoenix) hosts the final race of the season.
Martinsville(2) moves to second to last race of the year.

Nothing too revolutionary.

Those are good changes. A shake-up has been badly needed for 10 years at least.

Didn't like Harvick push for the schedule change the most? And he gets his favorite track as the title decider  Calling it he's the 2020 champion right away.

I can't help but feel cautiously curious by the lengthy two-week break between the second Loudon and second Michigan races.

The fact that one of those off-weeks falls on the current Eldora Truck weekend is purely coincidental.... right? :whistling:

Wait, so a 400 mile race Saturday and a 400 mile race Sunday?

Yep... Everyone does double duty and no Xfinity field gets raped by Kyle.

The two week gap was requested by NBC so that they can show the Olympics, apparently.

The schedule is realistically the most mixed up it could have been considering that new tracks can't be added until 2021.

Daytona is the regular season cutoff? Are they trying to kill someone?

And as a fan in the Northeast, we have recently lost a race weekend at Loudon and now lose a weekend at Pocono. Sure, Pocono is still 2 races, but if you can't make it that weekend you will have to wait a whole year. Don't like this trend. :(

Really don't understand some of their thinking here

- Martinsville & Charlotte x2 going back to back, good luck trying to get the same fan base to show up 3 weeks in a row. Also the Saturday night races are in Bowman Gray season too so good luck getting the weekly diehards in Winston Salem away from the Madhouse
- All of the Midwest races (but 1) within a span of a month & a half
- Chicagoland's date moved to Road America's usual slot for IndyCar - like what the hell are you thinking? Alot of the crowd that goes to Chicagoland in the first place are chesseheads
- Daytona's night race in prime hurricane season? yikes
- Bristol's night race in college football season - better hope the Vols aren't playing

also to a lesser extent: Fontana moved back towards the rainy season (especially if it's el Nino), Pocono & Watkins Glen going against each other or running back to back weekends (Cup doubleheader & 6 Hour) - partly attracts same fanbase to both tracks around the Southern Tier and north PA, Dover same weekend as usual date for Pocono IndyCar, Homestead piggy backing off of the big races & Bike Week, not sure about Kansas 1 new data - Topeka is moving NHRA into mid June for a reason (Topeka has been rained out in that slot last couple years)

also confirms that NHRA & NASCAR swapping weekends at Charlotte again in the fall

Oh shoot you're right, didn't even notice Pocono was the same weekend as 6 hour. Welp, no nascar for me in 2020.

Even though some of these changes are interesting, I can't help but think this is NASCAR almost literally rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. There are dire fundamental problems with the product, and updating the schedule won't fix them.

That is the traditional week when Tennessee plays Florida. Whether that falls on that weekend in 2020 remains to be seen. What does fall on that weekend is the Rhythm and Roots Festival, a huge music festival in downtown Bristol which probably draws more folks into town and more revenue than the race does these days.

Funny that Nascar gave 2 weeks off to NBC to broadcast the olympics, because since is in Tokyo the live events will be during the late night/early morning in America which will be no problem to other prime time sports

NBC doesn't really worry about airing most of the Olympics stuff live. They tape delay all the most popular events/events with Americans having a shot to win and air them with tons of interviews and fluff pieces about the athletes during primetime.
