They don't give them enough tyres to allow for more running anyway, so unless Pirelli, or the incoming bridgestone, increase the allocation (ie, spend more money) then might as well run bare minimum and hope the lack of data makes the racing better on Sunday.

Shit's really gonna hit the fan when Bridgestone try to conserve even more tyres and won't even make short range softer tyres like Pirelli do so there'll be little strategy element in the races....

What I read was they made it clear this was their final go around and the only reason Bridgestone didn't bid is they didn't want to have to make new F1 spec tyres for 2025 and then again for the new regs in 2026 which would make it not as cost effective as just coming in earlier in a regulation cycle

Pirelli are out after 2027 and no-one else really wants it, so 2028 is Bridgestones for the taking it seems.

I'm of the school that says good riddance Pirelli. I was a supporter of them at the start, but after a decade of terrible tyres it has become clear that they just don't have the technical ability to make good tyres and hide behind the "they are only making them to spec" argument. People forget that their tyres in the late 80's and early 90's were crap as well and couldn't last more than a few laps.

funny because the sole 80's victories for Pirelli were based on lasting longer. But they were racing against Goodyears, which at the time were far from being gold standard

Take this with a bucket load of salt but I heard ePrix would have very low if but nothing sanctioning fees for the first few races then skyrocket them if the event became popular, plus I think there was an element of buyers remorse when it becomes clear just how “carbon nuteral” it all really is and the only way they achieve that is buying bucket loads of carbon credits on some make believe market thing similar to ESG scoring.

Could be very difficult to get the tyres up to temperature

I'd second that with a worn street tarmac of the strip and you get cars running with 80% throttle max on straights

The race is 5pm Australian time on Sunday so we're super chuffed with the race time

If there's any TBK'ers in Melbourne, a few of my friends who have a podcast will get together and watch the race at a pub in Richmond. All are welcome to tag along.

I live in Tokyo so all the America's races are at 2-3 am here. You live in the same country yet have a 1 am race start. That is just nuts. Even all the European races are at 10 - 11 pm for me.

Haha, it's actually more convenient for central European time than it is for most the US, 7AM start on Sunday morning here. I like morning races, breakfast with the race then be done with F1 and get on with your day.

One of the instances where holding a night race is counter-productive, unlike in the Persian gulf. Are we up for an all-time low then? Someone here stated Montreal 1978 was the worst on record with what, 5°C?

Maybe they'll run intermediates on a dry track :mrgreen:
