I think they were pulling up a strip between the kerb and the track itself, which is odd.

Well I just tuned in and man they have butchered the aesthetics of the straight for Moto Gp. Have they actually altered the kink? It looks different.

I think they should just restore old Österreichring and leave that new section for MotoGP and club racing.
