Why we have to cross the ocean during European season for one single race, and then again in June, wonders me.

One wonders if the Imola race was to replace China but F1 was too oblivious to fix the schedule.

They go from the Middle East to Melbourne, back to Europe, over the pond, back across the pond, to Baku then back across the pond again.

Should have had Miami, Mexico and Canada grouped together mid season with Austin and Brazil at the end.

SUSTAINABILITY

Ironically, something that the Middle-Eastern season did better and showed more flexibility in accomodating.

This is spot on. F1 is too glamourous and stuck-up to go race in classic "rural America" tracks. They keep some classic European venues to bank on the historical aspect, and the same cute "authentic" and folkloric feel that appeal so much to American tourists visiting Europe (eg. San Marino with the cute little red roof houses around) - but you know what kind of modern shallow brand-new venues they love for the rich elite it's representing. Everything would look like Sochi, Marina Bay, SA, and Miami if they could get away with it.

all about attracting "X" uber huge celebrity names (that would likely attend Monaco or Singapore in the same year anyway) and whatever sells the most hospitality suites. Same exact model & logic behind NASCAR's expansion boom of the late 90's / early 00's - just on a higher level. It's not rocket science though; as their intended buyers will always pick a mega market like NYC, LA or Miami before ever considering a hardcore racing venue.

I'll be watching, but I'm not really looking forward to this race.

One thing must be said. It's a new F1 track that has not been designed by Tilke.

From all the previews of the track, it does seem to be an interesting one. But the Crypto.com Miami GP gives it a sketchy vibe.

James Corden is going to be one of the "celebs" at this race

Jesus FUCK I may not watch if he's given any kind of airtime, the fucking twat

I remember him showing up to Jenson Button's championship celebrations and somehow trying to make it all about him and what a great fan of Jenson and the sport he was.....sure, sure James
Left a sour taste in the mouth of a great celebration and no doubt

Paul Riccard called. They want their garish paint back. Lol. A fake painted marina at the "Miami" GP. Why not use that lovely storm water canal beside the track?

The track designers took one look at Sochi and said....you know what makes Sochi and awesome track? Those back chicanes. Lets do that section, but like, times 10. Fuck yeah!!!

If they went back to old Spa, you'd find a way to complain about that too

Are there any elevation changes in that part of Florida? I'm not even convinced the beach slopes into the sea lol.

So did the Miami GP organizers really think they were going to fool anyone with their marine? All I see now is people making fun of them.

Nothing like the nostalgia of being back in the US to race in a parking lot.

I really want to be positive and give the race a chance. I'm just struggling with what we have seen so far (a bit too Sochi/Valencia). F1 trying to shove the hype down our throats on social media isn't helping either.

But maybe it will deliver a classic.

Yeah, you can really tell which tracks are "we're here cause we have to" (Portimão, Jeddah, Qatar) and which ones are "we're here cause we want to".

classic race only if excessive porpoising leads to critical suspension failure, causing a pile up after a safety car

Knowing how the world works these days, they probably thought they'd get more social media reach by people laughing at it and making memes about it with a superior attitude than they would if they did it well
Sort of like "Guys, there's no way we can make this look good, lets make it look really bad and get more attention that way"

Which is the real American dream atm tbf

Don't worry about it, the race is starting at 9pm our time IIRC?
So good or bad we'll probably be asleep after about 10 laps......or we can switch to NASCAR and moan about that instead ;)
