I like that since Germany isn't on the calendar, the traditional eulogy to the old Hockenheim is taking place here

I always remembered Berger putting a huge swipe on Blundell just before they reach the Ostkurve, but I never noticed how Blundell pushes him onto the grass beforehand. Seems quite fair in context!

Good little scrap that. Well illustrated by Palmer droning on and on over the top of it.

Spain is so cursed for good racing that they should be alternating with one of those countries that pay big to host races

The European and San Marino GP titles are currently unused, so this idea is a no-brainer.

I always wondered, in the days that we had the GP of Luxembourg at the Nürburgring, did Luxembourg actually organize it, paid for it, or were involved with anything else besides a "sure, you can use our name"?

The French wikipedia page mentions that they only borrowed the name, but not much more details. Even in context it's difficult to know if it's a researched information, or just implied by the fact they raced in Germany. From my vague memories of the time it was malways referred to as a tribute more than anything else.

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Pri ... Luxembourg

Did they play the Luxembourg national anthem before the race? Did they even play anthems in that era (we only had broadcast start barely before formation lap)?

What anthem they play at European GPs when run twice in the same county?

I found this old article, but it doesn't really shed any light on the question. I wouldn't be surprised if money was involved. Bernie probably had always a few spare billions on their bank accounts.
Quote:
There are several points of interest. There are still only five non-European races despite the extra event - Austria being included but China losing out on its bid to hold a race in 1997. Portugal gets the season finale while the tiny Grand Duchy of Luxembourg - a historical curiosity and tax haven which nestles between Belgian, Germany and France - has been granted a Grand Prix, although this will be held at the Nurburgring in Germany. The title has been given to the race to avoid complaints that Germany is hosting too many consecutive European GPs (the Nurburgring has had races in 1995 and 1996) while other countries (notably France) do not get the chance. It will not be the first Luxembourg GP. There have been a number street and aerodrome races under that title dating back to 1939, when Jean-Pierre Wimille won the first in a Bugatti. After the war the event was revived for F2 and sportscars at Findel airport.

Of particular interest is this bit;

Quote:
what the FIA is proposing now, to pull the floor up 2.5 cm at the edges and to strengthen the diffuser a bit, is exactly what Mercedes actually proposed to the FIA in Canada for this TD to solve the bouncing problem.

Wolff certainly getting his money's worth out of Shelley-Ann.

Well Baku also hosted Euro 2020 matches and Kazakhstan is affiliated with UEFA, just like Israel aswell so I just assume professional sports are an outright mess regarding those technicalities

btw I'd rather have European GP at Baku over Valencia at any time

So.... word on the street, or rather from some anti-trust authorities, is that Porsche will take a 50% stake in Red Bull Racing.

Probably not the point that wants to be raised, but the FIA are already too far along the road of feeling responsible for everything that happens on track, including throwing Safety Cars just to ensure the cars are on the right tyres for the conditions.
The old days of "The pit lane is open, it's up to the teams to put on the right tyres for the conditions" are long, LONG gone I'm afraid

With that mindset, you can see how they want to push this directive through for safety, especially since the use of the front of the floor over the diffuser was not their intention for the new rules at all and is more a Double Diffuser style loophole the fastest teams have found in the rules for a compettitive advantage
They're now trying to reframe the debate to garner support, using "this will bring Mercedes dominance back" as the scary thing we must be afraid of and vote against, just like mainstream politicians do with fearmongering whatever lesser "other" tribe is on the outs at that particular moment in time

This will probably run and run..............then it'll be over and we'll get back on with watching racing.
