Presumably they'd be using the helicopter regardless.

Pretty much yes, the hospital Wickens was sent (as was Wilson three years ago) is about 50 miles away.

Op-Ed: Okay, I get that you have five drivers passing through the infield care center, but when you have a driver in a situation that serious and speculation of the worst, wouldn't it be prudent to release a statement as soon as possible even if it's just an 'awake and alert' statement like they gave? Why wait for all five to be checked out before getting a word out.

That latest replay angle is tough watching, even with the latest update. Another life saved by HANS?

Ed Carpenter never wastes a chance to bitch about the people running the series, even during a crisis

Probably more to do with (step) family loyalty than anything concrete, as the series has been run a lot better of late than it used to be.

You ever tried to get a doctor (because it'll have to come from a medical professional) to stop and talk about a loved one's condition in a time like this?

No, he's too busy actually helping the patient and saving their life if necessary.
If/when the patient is stable enough, they'll then have the time to ease the family's concerns, but it's not a number 1 priority.

In short: It doesn't matter about how much we're worrying at a time when the doctors are too busy actually helping the patient to placate us.

What did he say?

"It's a shame the first start counted, but then that's always the way with race control, no-one around to make the hard decisions when they need to"

This is the first year I've seen them actually line them up for starts and not just wait for the first 6 cars to get side by side and throw the green whenever Helio accelerated

I guess the subtext of his rant was "I think it'd be better if my Step-dad was running things. Or me, when i retire"

The shit they're using the fix the fence looks to be the same chicken wire that kept the blues brothers safe when they pretended to be the Good Ol' Boys.

they should stop using chicken wire in those turns where they don't have spectators and raise taller safer barriers to avoid this kind of crash

Still, there's always a silver lining - Indycar has its 30 seconds of non-Indy news time for this year and no-one had to die in the process.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Just play some old country tunes and you'll be fine.

I tells ya, if Pocono contracted some of the local population to fix that fence, it'd probably be done by now and bring on a guarantee of a successful harvest.

Maybe that question was asked but why they will not use some kind of for example plastic, transparent panel instead of catchfence?

Too expensive, reflections, questions over what happens if it shatters etc. Indycar looked into it a few years ago and decided fencing was more efficient.

Did someone working on the fence get hurt? I noticed a gurney near the wall a few minutes ago, which doesn’t make sense as all the drivers were gone from the scene over an hour ago.
