Just found it while looking for the picture of their new trailer livery 8O

I like this! Interesting airbox, seems halfway between the earler Mercs and the Caterham. Blacked-out shark fin, and a great paint job

Looks great. Compared to the 'meh' Williams, this one looks fast.

The car is great and the livery superb, one of the best Sauber had in quite a very long time, but that black shark fin feels really really wrong there! It would be perfect without it!

25 years aniversary is silver btw.
Also worrying that it's soo large on the side instead of a proper sponsor.
Together with the 2016 engine I do still fear their future. Unless the new owners of F1 work wonders in a short time.

Another pic has surfaced - this actually gives a good demonstration of what they were trying to do with the fin:

Definitely would be nicer to see some sponsors, though :o

Still, I want to take an oxy cutter and remove that fin

Looks nice, but why do all the teams have a shark fin again? And there would be no more dildo's on the nose, yet both williams and sauber have it again. Can't they write proper rules?

The size and shape is completely different to the one on the Williams, so I would assume not. I guess it does a good job tidying up airflow ahead of the rear wing, so I guess most if not all the cars will have them.

Where the heck did you guys see the new Williams car? Everyone keeps talking about it but there's no post/topic.

Regarding the rear fin, last time I read the technical regulations, they had forbidden any aero piece located in that triangle behind/above the airbox, precisely to prevent small wings that started there in 1995 (McLaren). When and why was that crap allowed again?

I don't mind the fin. If the air intake has to be there, I'd rather the fin.

IIRC this was literally the reason for increasing engine cover size for 2004. :slaphead:

Yes it was the initial reason back then.

We should just let the teams do what they want for performance, and not care about aesthetics at all. I mean, it's not like the sport needs viewers, and viewing literally involves looking at things, and I prefer pretty and simple things.

No.

But it's excellent for channeling air to the rear wing.

Teams don't care about how it looks when you get a significant percentage increase in downforce from it.

The cynic in me also says it means they can fit more sponsors or logos.

I don't know if someone knows but what I've been wondering. So we had these regulation changes which apparently so far have triggered fins again. We've seen them in the past but my question would be, from my perspective, someone who has no idea, it seems quite logical that the fin channels the air back to the rear wing now why did the early 2000s not have it? If I recall correctly, the airboxes back then dropped quite sharply so that there would've been plenty of space. Was it because of the regulations, because no one thought about it or something else that would've made it less effect (as we haven't seen the fin in the past seasons as well)?

The new Sauber looks so much better than the HIDEOUS 2016 car:

The car in the upper right corner of that picture is actually the 2015 car.
Personally I thought the 2016 car was quite good looking.
