Well, the engine failure at Sepang made the all important difference.

Ah he's coming.

"Arriving in half an hour"

No faith that Nico could win it and bought a last minute ticket? :D

Keke stays at home/in the hotel, he's never at the track when Nico races.

Yarp, reminds me of 2006 with Alonso at Monza without MS having the balancing Engine failure in Japan.

But that's life. Luck is part of the game sometimes no matter how hard you try.

Still, Keke had far more luck in 1982 than Nico here. With so few mechanical failures around now, literally one DNF makes a huge impact.

This being said I fully expect Lewis to storm back next season like there's no tomorrow.

Matteo Bonciani is quite annoyed:

The reactions of Mercedes really irritate me. Toto and Niki heavily criticized Hamilton in the interviews now and think about ways to discipline him, toto even saying that he's happy there is a new champion. I don't think you can blame Lewis for how he drove today. Mercs reliability effectively cost him the championship and he just tried to make up for it, albeit he drove cleanly and very intelligently. Romberg made the most of it and I'm not really unhappy to see him as a champion

Tbh I think they are more annoyed that the whole world got to hear their driver stick two fingers up at the bosses. Mercedes seem to care more than any other team about the 1-2s, and tbh I don't think it matters to them who gets the championship. They said nothing about his backing up until it made Vettel a threat.

They're annoyed because the drivers agreed not to play games with each other in the pre-race briefing and Lewis did not keep his word.

A great day for Esteban Ocon in many ways.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

He is an employee being payed a shit load of money. The company is huge. It's a team sport. They have given Hamilton a gazillion miles of leeway in the past, beyond reason, and it maybe the last win for a time to come. Hamilton was borderline for me, I expecting a lot more dirty tricks from him, so yeah, Lewis simply blames technical failures which Rosberg also has had. Hamilton is great, but he is a child in these situations, it's laughable.

The only reason Hamilton is a 3 time champion is Mercedes and the only reason Rosberg is a champion is because of Mercedes. Rosberg is the dutifull driver while Lewis thinks it's only thanks to him. Look at the championship, if Lewis wasn't there, Rosberg would be 3 time champion. I miss the mentality Frank Williams had when they were winning. Everybody could win in our car. They don't need Lewis, it also would save them a shit load of money and actually turn a profit.

Toto is being quite diplomatic now that the adrenaline has died down. Johnny isn't letting it go, though...

Lewis wouldn't have been in a Williams this far down the line when Frank was running the team. Even Senna wouldn't have gotten away with this sort of behaviour.

Toto makes a point though. Mercedes has strict rules and it's by following them rigorously that they got to where they are now.
Hamilton has benefited from this mindset for several years, it's kind of dishonest to follow the rules when they benefit him but not when they don't go his way.

But hey, we would all have done the same in his position.

...no, I'm not sure I believe that either!
