Very true. I should have added the disclaimer "on Friday mornings and when it wasn't broken down because the team forgot to put oil in the engine or the engine cover hadn't flown off."

the one with forgotten oil was Andrea Moda, that only was better than Life because it actually qualified to a race

but Life had to squeeze the Judd V8 engine by hammering the engine cover into it

Well they did that only after abandoning the W16 engine

wasn't it a W12? the worst power output per cilinder in F1 history, joint with a heavy engine and high consumption

I remember reading about Life in the 1990 yearbook and while Tyrrell showed the best developments on suspension and front wings, Life was bashed by the press during every event

In TV terms, a number of changes are being contemplated. These were presented to broadcasters as unconfirmed plans at a meeting this week.

Among the ideas were:
Quote:
making the start time of European races an hour later in the hope of attracting a bigger audience - so a typical start would be 2pm in the UK, rather than 1pm
I'd rather it stay at 1pm.
Quote:
races to start at 10-past the hour rather than on it
Don't see the point?
Quote:
Bahrain to become a full night race rather than start at twilight
Don't care either way.
Quote:
improved engine sound from repositioned on-board microphones
Hopefully not what they were trialing on Perez's car at the end of last year as whatever they were doing simply sounded awful.
Quote:
make the cars look faster with different camera angles and static cameras
Cool.
Quote:
playing a soundtrack of music at occasional parts of the race
They do that I press mute!
Quote:
a highlights reel to play at regular intervals during the live broadcast
On the pits channel or something fine but not a fan of them taking the focus away from live action & interrupting the world-feed to do it even if it's some sort of PIP or Split-screen.
Quote:
a potential deal with Netflix for behind-the-scenes footage
As long as it's something interesting & worth watching that would be cool.

Badass soundtracks during the grid, or when stats show up could be nice (similar to CART/Indycar)

Making the races an hour later will not pick up the viewing figures.

Better racing would.

for me races starting a hour later would be sweet as 10PM start means I can wake up a bit later during race days

regarding soundtrack during the race, I don't know why but they used to do during national stock car races and it was lame

They should play Duel of the Fates, during an on-track battle

This is probably to draw bigger audiences from the Americas.

Meh to this. NBCSN and Speed used to cut away from live action to play highlights (following ad breaks and at random points) which was infuriating.

If the race is boring fix what is making it boring, we don't need WEC style "highlight" reels which to cover up the boring bits and "grab your attention back" which are usually played inadvertently just as something dramatic happens.

Almost every major sport globally sits behind some kind of paywall. Why are we expecting F1 to be any different? We've been lucky that F1 has been free-to-air for years longer than most other major sports. It's irritating yet there's little we can do to fight the inevitable.

is pretty much like some football teams do. they're on a dilemma between selling 1000 tickets for $100 each or 10000 tickets for $10 each

is not the case in Europe as supporters have several ways to follow their teams on home games, but that is some local thought, F1 cannot sell season tickets but could work the way NBA does, selling a digital content by an accessible price and with exclusive content made for fans

if the fans cannot get it for free (but we get it anyway :p ) they should at least do something that could work like some leagues (but I'll not pay more than BRL 50,00 monthly to see races)

I dont think you can fully compare F1 to other major sports. For example, two of the biggest would be the British Premier League and the NFL. In both of those you'll get multiple games each weekend alone. Some will be a borefest but others dont.

In F1 you only get 20 with several at times you cant always watch. Add the one or two sundays where you have something else to go to and it already starts to get more expensive for maybe 15 races you can actually watch (maybe even less). With F1's current state half of them suck balls.

Besides the fact that F1 can be boring, a quick google search shows that NFL games are also broadcasted on NBC, ESPN, FOX and, CBS. So people who cant or wont pay for the NFLN still can watch it. They can still sit down with their kids and watch a game of football.
Currently I can watch F1 on German tv but if that would end my only option would be paywall. And being a divorced dad with normal income and debts thats not an option.
That would not only mean, F1 loses me as a viewer but also potentially my son and daughter as future F1 fans. And thats the major issue. By fully going behind a paywall you block off a large group of current and future fans.
And thats what F1 should focus on. How to keep that group. How to allow that group to keep watching.

IMHO the F1 package is not sustainable when being placed fully behind a paywall.

Indeed, races should be free. Make all the rest pay per view, free practice and qualifying and the extra feeds. But the world feed for the race should be free. Maybe even on YouTube or Facebook live stream

Little rant.

I've had enough of people complaining about motorsport behind a paywall.

In Australia, you can get access to F1, V8 Supercars, BTCC, F2, GP3, MotoGP, GT just about every major motorsport on the planet for less than $1.50 a day. Seriously, my pay TV package costs $38 a month and it comes in HD. It costs half as much as what my phone costs. Half as much as what my internet costs, it's the lowest overhead I have.

If you're complaining about having to spend that on motorsport, your priorities are all wrong.

Other countries might be different, might have to pay more, but if you love motorsport that much, it shouldn't be too much effort to pay for it.

It's not so cheap in the UK, and because of the Governments desire for competition, the various motorsports are spread out over 3 or 4 providers, which means you need a sub for each one.

Being an F1 / BTCC / MotoGP / NASCAR fan can cause you to have to pay out £100+ a month, at least, that's A$175 compared to your A$38 - quiet a difference and the vast majority of the UK doesn't have £100+ of disposable income, and half of those are probably working at weekends too, besides most sensible people have the priority of feeding their family first, not watching sport, only the stupid prioritise sport over food. And you Aussies wonder why so many of us want to emigrate lol

here I pay a shitload of money to get the channels and when I expect to see live Nascar racing, Fox Sports shows argentine football instead

makes me want to drop a bomb in their offices
