Also, no Will Burns this weekend as his car is a write off and he's going to be unable to drive for another 2/3 weeks. TOCA have accepted it as a genuine reason, so HARD won't get a strike against their name.

Looks like lots of changes coming to the BTCC 2018 in terms of drivers and new models. Possibility of another manufacturer entering too, one downsizing and another putting more money into their challenge.

I imagine that Subaru will probably be downsizing. Other than Sutton, they didn't exactly have a good year did they? Also, Sutton made a deal with Warren Scott that if he won the championship his car would be put on display at BMR and not raced again. And given everything that happened this year, it doesn't look like the team has the funding to build new cars.

BMW might be putting a bit more in. Dick Bennetts said he was close to signing a new contract earlier this week. But it might be Vauxhall instead, which would make sense.

They should just do a Ferrari and swap the stickers over to one of the dogs and display that, literally nobody outside those in the know will care or notice.

Ash Sutton will return in 2018:

From the Adrian Flux blog:

'And the good news is that Sutton will back in a Subaru next year to defend his crown. Roll on 2018.'

And Chilton looks set to return with Vauxhall

Great to have a longer race but it's a shame that a race of that length is considered to be special instead of the norm.

I've seen a few comments suggesting that Alan Gow has retired.

Nice idea for a longer race, not sure what that will mean for the schedule, hope we don't lose a support race or two to accommodate it (though I can't see how else they can do it, doubt ITV will extend their huge broadcast window any further)

Of all the tracks to do it on, I'd have put Snetterton last, kinda getting bored of the 300 layout now, it's not really added much imo

I'd have loved it to have been Thruxton but they have a hard enough time keeping the tyres on them in the normal length races

Snetterton is the only track without a curfew, that's probably whi it's been chosen.

Hence why they ran the night races there.

Why would you want to do away with the sprint race format in BTCC? Fine if they want one special longer event on the calendar, but IMO race length is one of the things BTCC got right and many racing series are increasingly outdated on. The reality is audiences have too many options to compete for their time to commit to 2hr+ race distances like they used to, and compacting the action into a shorter time frame is what (non-endurance) racing series should all be doing. Like I said marquee endurance events are fine, but I'm not going to be watching them every weekend.

The three race sprint format used by BTCC has been in effect for the past 14 seasons, with minor tweaks along the way. By far this is the longest standing race format in BTCC's history. It's good and provides opportunities for almost every team and driver to succeed at some point in the season. Plus for the fans it gives great and brief entertainment multiple times on a race day. But it's by no means perfect and it would do no harm to update the format or add some variety into the race day formats.

I'm not talking about endurance races, that would be silly. I'd just like the races to be somewhere between 75-100 km, long enough that winning one is meaningful but not too long. As they currently are, races without safety cars at Donington & Thruxton last fewer than 20 minutes, which is too short for a championship of this level.

Stick to the three race format but have the third race longer? Even if it means the first race is on Saturday and ITV are forced to show it.

haha you know ITV won't do that, the 30581066th repeat of Miss Marple will always trump live sports on ITV4 on a Saturday unless it's shitty football.

Well just a stream...

I miss Motors TV's coverage. At least they started with the first race and ended with the last race and didn't talk about random bollocks while a support race was going on.
