what happened with the small 'dots' that were shown in the qualifying in Australia? I thought that was pretty cool and gave a better indication how a driver was doing on such a particular lap.

I wasn't a fan of them. Guess they were quietly dropped.

Yeah they were dropped for the second race after people complained that they ended up looking only at them instead of the car on screen. I really liked them and miss them :/

What kind of idiots complain about that? It was much better than just 2 split times for a lap

I doubt they were dropped because of complaints, it's more likely that the sheer amount of split data being pushed into the FOM graphics system was causing the problems with the timing tower etc. and they've stopped using the segment data until they can get it working reliably.

I would like that as an option, but the default like it was, I like the suspense of not knowing how good that lap is AND also to keep my eyes more on the track, specially this year with such eye-candy machinery and speed.

For instance our commentators, Including Alex Wurz. They spent the entire session complaining about it

That's what I thought.

Then split the lap into 4 segments, like MotoGP has. Their system also lets the fan know whether the driver in improving on his personal best lap and a projected position. F1 tried to copy that I guess and made it too complicated.

I really liked the mini-sector loops been incorporated into the timing graphics, Having the standard splits is fine but breaking it down & giving you more info to help see where a driver is gaining or losing time was great & I'd like to see them come back.

I Like the extra telemetry data that FOM have added to there analysis tools, They should put stuff like this online as Sky don't always show the full lap:

NBCSN just showed that virtual segment between Vettel and Hamilton, I like it. WRC started doing GPS based virtual comparisons about 10-15 years, but we'll gloss over that.
