The Palmer Renault is horribly inaccurate: it looks intact.

shouldn't they have drawn the pacifier on either Stroll (the youngest) or Vettel (crybaby) instead of Max?

Maybe, but they already have something suited to them.

Someone told me that apparently the F1 testing times is Barcelona were the fastest ever with a slight exception of some unofficial slick test in 2008. The 2008 car with slicks should've been slightly faster than the current ones. Now I'm wondering if anyone knows something about it because I honestly can't remember that or haven't heard of it though I found it quite interesting.

Wasn't that before the new chicane though?

The chicane was there in 2008, but the cars back then were 100kg (circa) lighter.

That makes sense, thanks! Probably too obvious too see because I was a little bit stunned, less downforce, less HP, smaller tires and probably less developed slicks. But now it makes sense :D

well in 2008 they were running Bridgestones so quality was a bit better than the actual tires :whistling:

SFM, I remember that test. If I'm not mistaken, even M. Schumacher took part on it. Massa did the fastest lap over the various days(3, I think) with 1.18.3

Obviously, the track already had the chicane back then.

I'm actually surprised that only now you found out that the 2017 testing times were faster than any official ones(pole, Q2 or whatever) but slower than 2008s with slicks. During testings, everybody seemed to know that already so people didn't need to tell them about it.

Jean Todt has claimed that not being able to pass is the price you pay for better looking cars.
Todt has become more senile than Bernie.

And he made that comment before the Australian GP. Thankfully he also said that aero regs will need to be looked at to ensure cars can follow closely, but that's in the long term.

Here's the full article.

Autosport.com wrote:
FIA president Jean Todt believes a lack of overtaking in Formula 1 in 2017 may be a price worth paying for faster and more spectacular cars.

The season-opening Australian Grand Prix featured just two on-track passing moves compared to 26 in the 2016 Melbourne race, backing up winter fears that the greater reliance on aerodynamics combined with the reduced tyre degradation would result in an overtaking decrease this year.

Speaking to selected media ahead of the Australian race, Todt acknowledged that there was likely to be less passing in 2017 but argued that was counterbalanced by the spectacle of the cars' performance.

"Overtaking has always been a problem in motor racing," said Todt.

"I remember races 20 or 30 years ago, when a car with fresh tyres that was three or four seconds quicker could not pass a car with old tyres because overtaking was difficult.

"Clearly we can figure out that overtaking will be even more difficult this year.

"But we have tried to find ways to make overtaking easier with DRS and other technologies.

"Maybe the new regulations will make overtaking more difficult, but maybe it was the price to pay for having wider cars with more aerodynamics."

The FIA is set to reconsider the length of DRS zones after the Chinese GP when it has a better idea about just how difficult overtaking is.

Todt has also suggested that, longer term, F1 might need to rethink its aerodynamic concept to ensure that future cars can follow each other more closely.

"It's something that we need to address when we are going to speak about future regulations, about whether it is a good compromise," he said.

Three-time world champion Lewis Hamilton suggested after the Melbourne race that the current overtaking situation was the worst he had experienced in his 10-year F1 career.

"It is fundamental to the way the cars have been since I've been in Formula 1 but it's probably worse now than it's ever been," he said.

"It's definitely not going to be better - it's going to be the same for the rest of the season."

Get rid of Todt
Get rid of strategy group
Dictate set of rules which simplifies aero
Problem solved

Jean Toddlestone probably wants Image for F1 so overtaking will be guaranteed. If that's too gimmicky, maybe just healthy Image

Is it possible to make the front and rear wings more simple for next season, or is this what we're stuck with for another three years? Presumably they can't change the rules or the cars half way through a season?

I would have been happy with wider cars, wider tyres, but keeping the aero more simple.

that decision must be taken unanimously by the teams and the aero is the only way they can keep trying to set up a domination so no, only someone with supreme powers over the rules to define what's better
