Because it will kill a perfectly fine class. There is already perilously few places for small bore RWD cars to race. We need more of them not less.

Wow, and Penske will probably bring more teams with it, that will see the series potential, and then Honda. S* is getting serious(3)

Not only this, but it would also remove the grassroots effects from the CTSCC series has. I really hope the ST class stays how it is currently as there isn't many other classes like it anymore.

I do want to see TCR have success in the USA just like every other form of motorsport, but I rather see IMSA or WC Vision/USAC form a separate series or class for it.

TCR is cheaper than developing a new ST car. Karl Thompson of C360R has said that to run those S3's in ST they had to re-wire the entire car to get past the factory electronics. Modern cars have too much shit in them to turn them easily into a racecar.

It's still tragic to lose ST as it was - granted these days there's not a huge amount of variety left, but in it's heydey the ST cars provided some of the best variety and racing anywhere in the world. It really was that good.

Blame the OEM manufactures for putting all the electronic crap in the cars then. Directly responsible.

Nah, it's got a lot to do with all the shit on the inside of a car and being connected through everything else.

IMSA CTSCC: TCR added as 3rd class for 2018

TL;DR:
- TCR added as 3rd class to CTSCC next year, will slot between GS & ST
- IMSA obtains exclusive rights to create standalone TCR series for United States & Canada
- cars must have relevance in North American market (Alfa Romeo, Audi, Ford, Honda, Kia, Subaru, VW)

Good that it doesn't replace either existing class. If this even was one of the possibilities.

The rumors of of Penske-Honda DPi program (possibly labelled as Acura) and imminent announcement are getting pretty adamant. This even spilled over to the Indycar weekened as Helio is rumored to switch and then just do Indy 500 next year.
