Daytona's qualifying races are gonna be even more pointless than they already are if there's barely 40 cars.

Carl Edwards came to the rescue last night.

I'm guessing this was in Missouri, where he's from because I know the roads got really bad last night across the state, including my neck of the woods. Good thing he could help out.

LOL at all the insider media members saying they were dropping Cup from the name.... I actually like what they came up with here.

Pretty cool video on the Twitter machine showing the logo progression from 1948.

I like NASCAR getting away from their cliched oval logos.

I think the NASCAR Monster Cup Series would have been a better choice for the name. The new logo looks nice though.

if monster commits to nascar the way red bull have committed to pretty much every other motor sport then this could be good for both of them

The one thing you can say is you know Monster will do very well with their marketing. I was listening to the radio the other day and Mike Bagley brought up an interesting point.. When you would go to a Winston Cup race, you'd stop by the little stores and gas stations and they'd all have the Welcome Race Fans signs. RJR knew that their cigarettes were in those stores so they used even those tiny stores for marketing. Under Nextel/Sprint, those stores near the track didn't sell mobile devices, etc so they had to market in a different way. Back to Bagley's thought, Monster's product is in those stores where Joe Blow used to stop in for his Winston's and 30 pack of Busch. Maybe Monster follows RJR's blueprint? One can only hope.

If you think about it, energy drinks are modern day cigarettes. They're terrible for you and in about 25 years we're probably going to find out they cause some sort of cancer. I'm actually surprised the energy drink craze hasn't died off yet. Yes, less than 10 years everyone was trying to come out with their own, but Red Bull and Monster are the best sellers just like Marlboro, Winston, and Newport are for cigarettes.

I was about to say a similar thing. From a public health standpoint, there are a few national recommendations about energy drinks but nothing major. I think that will change in a few years.
It seems kind of fitting that an energy drink sponsors nascar now. There's already been so many other energy drink companies that have been drawn to sponsors cars in all three series

That's what I've thought from the beginning of the rumors.

From one substance that's banned from advertising, some cell phone stuff in the middle, to another substance that will be banned from advertising in the future.

It's the perfect sponsor for the modern incarnation of NASCAR: it's an obnoxiously hyped, falsely-high energy, short-term-thinking boost with little to no real, worthwhile substance contained within. Post-NASCAR has found its partner in crime, and now we're left to watch them drive off the cliff, hand in hand.
