There were definitely more moments than last year. Yes, there were snoozefests like Baku, but you get that every year in every series.

i could see ricciardo jumping to mercedes knowing the team favors verstappen. i also think ricciardo would pose the greatest driver challenge of anyone on the grid. he out qualified and out drove max on a regular basis, just like he did to vettel

Now that would be unexpected and would def be a huge challenge for Lewis

That would be very silly and would never happen. Who would Red Bull even draft? Kvyat again? Sainz maybe?

I hope Mercedes is stupid enough to lure Alonso over. We can have more Hamilton meltdowns to look forward too \o/.

I cannot see Mercedes spill out top dollar to get Ricciardo or Alonso. Nor can I see Red Bull or McLaren letting them go cheap.

I honestly think we're looking at the likes of Bottas and Wehrlein partnering Lewis in 2017.

I would seriously ROFLMAO if Alonso did manage to bag the Mercedes seat for next year, then McLaren-Honda just happened to have the fastest car for 2017 :-)

If I was Mercedes I'd say no to Alonso just because of how bad he is at judging form before he jumps into a team feet first

"Oh you want to come here do you Fernando? Well if you did we'd spend all of 2017 misfiring and you wouldn't even start the year due to a mysterious incident.....nah, We're ok thanks"

What?

Well Dan did beat Max 10-7 in race results and 11-6 in qualifying. I don't think anyone would say Max underperformed to the expectations on him though.

yeah, dan quietly had a rather remarkable season. and if you take the victory red bull handed to verstappen and give it back to ricciardo its even more impressive.

if i wasnt a longtime lewis fan i would pull for daniel

To me Dan is the guy that flies below the radar. I knew he was on the grid the entire season but somehow he never really stood out.
Others took the spotlight this season but he claimed best of the rest (As mercedes was a league of their own).

Just look at the surprise of him outperforming Max.

He definitely stood out in Monaco where, for the first time in history, he didn't smile.

In the races that they were in the same team, Ricciardo scored more points than Verstappen. He also finished on the podium more often (8-7). So yeah, Verstappen looked more spectacular, but Ricciardo beat him on most if not all areas.

It was close and Ricciardo had more experience. But the original quote of trout is 100% legitimate.

looks like the race in Paul Ricard will be held on the longest course, with a chicane on Mistral

so it'll be boring as usual

Imagine if F1 ever bothered / dared to add a Super-Speedway to the calendar, £50 bet they would have a chicane installed :-( #pussies

The problem is, F1 cars are in no way cut out for crashing into a wall at anywhere near speedway speeds - look at how well Ralf Schumacher's car held up in a pretty low-speed impact.

I'd say it held too well, transferring the impact to his spine instead of snapping the engine off or something. Back injury on backwards impacts was a common occurrence in Indycars as well around that era though.

I'd be more concerned about lateral impact where F1 lacks a lot compared to Indycars.

Meanwhile, Maldonado has turned up at Brackley to apply for the drive at Mercedes:
