Say what you want about early IRL, but this is damn entertaining!

Kenny Bräck's debut, thought it was relevant as Felix Rosenqvist is making his first oval race in Indy Lights this weekend. Cars which are about as fast as these cars.

Well, it's May! You all know what's this month...here's the 1986 Indy 500 (first live flag-to-flag broadcast, as the race had been aired via tape delay in years past).

It was a Penske party in 1988, with all three of their cars on the front row.

Racer.com made a good run-down of the events in May 1996. http://www.racer.com/more/viewpoints/it ... -96-130027

But I wonder, how would the series look like if The Split had not happened? I don't think it would be that different now TBH.

There's also an interesting point.

I always knew IRL teams used old CART equipment in that first year, but somehow never made the connection that at least some came from CART team, who sold them.

That was not the smartest thing to do.

He's also right in that if the CART guys had just showed up to the first two IRL races, they would have blasted them right off the map before it ever got going.

Opportunity lost.

You don't stand up to an entitled dick's attempt to power grab by helping him to power grab.

As for if the split would never have happened? It was always going to happen, if it didn't happen in 96 the festering resentment burning in the TG quarters would've spilt over eventually

If you could find some way of going back in time and maybe convincing Tony to not follow the family business when he was back in college or something (like going back and trying to stop WW2 by making sure Hitler's art or writing was more appreciated I guess) then I imagine a lot more fans would still be around (for all the bitter IRL Vs Cart feuding, a large majority of the casual fans just couldn't be bothered keeping up with what series was racing where at what time and drifted away and into the clutches of NASCAR)

And we'd be enjoying a hell of a lot better looking cars too.

Still my favourite Long Beach Grand Prix.

Zanardi was a lap down at one point.

Awesome. That race was the event that had me hooked up on American open-wheel racing.

Dredging up this post that @

made last year, as today marks 20 years since the craziest race in CART's history.

Ford sucked after 1994. It's amazing Michael Andretti had such a competitive season in 1996.

This race is like a normal race in the 1993 TBK IndyCar league. :D
