Something I remember from prior 600's is that the first 100-200 miles go by significantly faster than any of the other remaining miles. Obviously no reason for anyone to go throwing it all away at such an early stage, anyway.

It's a super long race and the track is slick from the daytime heat for the first couple hours. It's pretty much a guarantee that the first half of the race will consist of everyone just riding around.
