Rather have Mugello thanks. Imola isn't that great.

Imola isn't great, but I'd rather F1 / FIA didn't touch and neuter Mugello...

this is much and much better,

complete with a Circuit de Catalunya final section to prevent cars from lining up on the straight, and complete with a tunnel pit-exit that no one cares about anyway

Monza are planning to remove the 1st chicane for next year 8)

However you remember that new chicane they were planning to build for Motorcycles on the inside of Curva Grande.... Looks like the cars will use it as well :yuk:

http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2016/05/24/m ... t-chicane/

Quote:
The Rettifilio chicane is the first braking point on the current layout and has existed in various formats since 1972. For next year the track organizers plan to convert it back into a straight.

Instead of negotiating the current Curva Grande, drivers will sweep through a new section including a right-hander and a chicane. The details of this change to the track were revealed in January, however at the time it was expected it would only be used for motorbikes.

But the new track design documents states there will be “no difference between the car and motorcycle configurations”.

Oh fuck right off. But aren't those trees protected seeing that Monza is in a public park? I thought I read somewhere that they were...but that probably means shit.

Get rid of the second chicane too and it might be ok

That's fucking moronic "improvement" for the track! The Rettifilio chicane is very good place for the spectators to see some action and even a single car slowing down from top speed, turning left over curb then to right over another curb, line up and going flat out then pulling away down to Curva Grande. And there's grandstands on both sides of the track, so it has a nice stadium feeling. If they move the chicane, they have to move the stands as well and then they will destroy the Curva Grande completely and cut down a lot of trees. And there is no guarantee that the new chicane would improve racing at all. Hell, it would probably ruin all the chances to overtake in the 2nd chicane.

Maybe the track owners should focus on how to get the F1 stay rather than this...

Never been a fan of the 'new' (since 2000) first turn. I am open to giving this a chance.

That 370kph right-hand curve before braking for the chicane bothers me. Instead of a nice passage inside the trees, I expect the whole area between the current Curva Grande and the new section to become a humongus tarmac run-off and thus look like shit.

Yeah no way they're going to keep the trees there, otherwise it would be slightly OK.

*Sigh*.
So Monza will be sterilized even more (before being replaced by Imola) and Monaco is gone due to a shopping mall. What else? Suzuka being tilketized? Albert Park to Tarmac Park?

Thank goodness there's WRC that still have a challenge-factor: Small mistake -> You're out. Sadly, it's not TV friendly.

Well, there's still oval racing. That outside wall is going nowhere.

in my childhood I started thinking "what if they replace the outside walls with gravel traps such as Tarzan at Zandvoort, with the same angle as the turns. Of course it would take spectators away from the trackside but I'd love to see an IndyCar going out and raising a big dust cloud

That's obvious, and the inside runoff area is going to be at least to the "C" on that Old Pirelli Circuit stamp and then all the way down to the old track. It's going to be as cozy and natural as Abu Dhabi or what ever of those Tilkedromes.

See what happened to Hockenheim?

doubt that the new layout would improve the racing at monza.

should let it be how it is.

Hockenheim was overrated. Like Monza it hardly produced a good race.

If you ran Hockenheim today it would be amazing, I will admit. But back then it was plain boring.

Fuck you....

Those long straights where just awesome. And those surroundings, the forest, just completed the atmosphere of it.

Today's tracks just look too sterile with the miles of runoff areas. Austria and Mexico last year, for example, actually breathed the atmosphere I like about F1.

Apparently it's all related to negligence - organises allowing running to go ahead during typhoon season in near darkness.

I'm sure some people will bemoan the 'sue me, sue you' culture we live in, but tbh I think there is a case to answer here. The only thing I wouldn't agree with is including Marussia - the FIA organise the race and set the rules, and are therefore the only ones that could really be held negligent here.

I fail to see the part of Marussia in this one.
And only real issue IMHO is the lack of a safety car when they tried to remove the Sauber. At the same time, Jules choose to race, Jules choose to maintain speed while double yellow.
