I understand the purpose of the jut outs for safety trucks, but why do they need to be at such a nasty angle?

The cars used to just spin backwards. I'd rather a car lift up and blow over than ram a wall like that.

They provide for good wrecks.

Somone with the knowlege and capability needs to make a gif of the crew chief being interviewed when the crash happened. Just raised his eyebrows and nonchalantly pointed at the monitor, lol.

It's also the unintended consequence of paving the infields. You'll scrub a little more speed but the grip also hooks the cars into the wall at a much worse angle. We've seen it a fuckton in the last several years.

I think the long camera angle often makes the walls look worse than they are. A good example is where Kubica crashed at Montreal. If you look at it from an aerial shot, it's not that much of an angle at all.

Even so, that was a nasty hit.

Here's the Google maps view of the end of the wall. The Safer barrier extension at the end of the wall just seems unnecessary and that's what the 25 clipped.
