I think they should just scrap them, Go away & come up with a set of regulations aimed at improving the racing rather than purely chasing lap records & 'extreme' performance.

TBH I think for next year all thats really needed are a few tweaks to the existing regulations. Ban a lot of the crap that has grown on the front wings, Give them a higher fuel flow, Give them more overall fuel for a race & go back to 6 or 7 speed transmissions & allow them to adjust gear ratios each weekend.

Do those things the racing should be better as I think the biggest issue with current cars is how badly the overly complex front wings are affected by the dirty air. The higher fuel flow, total fuel allowance (And having less gears with ratios they are free to change each weekend) may well allow them to run more revs which will not only give more performance but also more volume.

You know that it's FIA and F1 you're talking about, right? They will hang on those 2017 rules, introduce halo, change qualifying, add green stripes to tires because they care about environment then fly around the world between dictatorships, alienate fans even more and jack up the prices because 2017 is going to be sooooo much better than ever before. Then it takes them three years to realize how much they've fucked up with the changes.

And by the time we're all following this instead:

^Hopefully that F5000 series gets good coverage. Definitely looks interesting.

At least more interesting than the roborace "cars".

I'm really looking forward to this Aussie series and I'm wondering why red bull didn't come up with something like that

http://www.espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/151 ... g-concerns

So the FIA have basically already thrown Pirelli under the bus for next year. Their reasoning is reading to me like, well if Pirelli deliver a tyre that is massively quicker and degrades to a set base line then there is all sunshine and rainbows on F1's horizon. Essentially they are relying on a 3rd party supplier to fix their sport.

But what will they do when Pirelli say screw you and up and leave after the inevitable bad press they will get when the new regs fail and Pirelli will be made to blame? They are being set up as the fall boy already.

"So we've done, I believe, the best we can given that we have to take everybody's views in to account. It's not easy sometimes to keep everybody happy, especially when you've got huge teams with massive resources. We have to rely on their simulations and that's what we've actually come up with. I believe we've trod the middle ground and we've come up with a solution which gained the most support among the teams."

So it is about making everybody happy instead of doing the right thing. Status quo...

Still no agreement on qualifying because Bernie & Todt feel going back to the previous system would be too confusing for fans
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.ph ... ing-change

Seems there instead insisting on some form of aggregate lap system where the grid is decided based off a drivers best 2 laps.... You know a bit like the format that didn't work in 2005 & was dropped after 6 races.

Its becoming a very sad joke at this point. The teams & most fans want to go back to the system we had last year but Bernie is too obsessed with 'mixing up the grid' to consider anything that doesn't have a gimmick attached & Todt..... I don't even know why he's still president of the FIA because he couldn't govern his way out of an F1 cockpit.

It would be good to know what they are doing and how it will look once it is complete. I cannot seem to find any info through Google.

Red Bull have been talking about using part of the old track for a while now although it seems odd that they are building a new chicane when there's an existing chicane a few meters up the road?

I believe this was the original proposal they put forward when they 1st brought the track:

Except it's a slow chicane instead of the esses it were.
