Fixed.
I dreamed that sponsors quit en mass because of the Mercedes dominance and teams getting in trouble because of that.

Why? To ruin race tyres and getting eliminated?

Usually this point would be the most exciting moment in Q3.

Aggregate qualifying was better than that.

So can we go back to the qualifying system we had last year now please?

Honestly if they stick with this i'm not sure i'll be watching another qualifying session this year because that was simply awful from start to finish.

That kind of worked for q1 and q2, but q3 was a farce.

This. Lift and coast towards the Indycar.

Just make q1 30 minutes to get in the top 10, and then have the top 10 do 1 lap superpole.

the tires aren't counted towards the race.

so they wouldnt have dropped lower than they already were, but they might've had a chance to take 2nd away from rosberg

Come Bahrain I am pretty sure Q3 will look different.
This is the sort of thing that an official season review will skip, simply because it is so embarassing.

The problem is the gaps between the teams. There is no way Ferrari can catch Mercedes, no way for TR or RB to catch Ferrari, etc. etc.

This indeed, and the fact that nowadays it doesn't matter to start 1st or 4th. You'd rather save tyres and get a good race strategy in, plus you can pass on track so it's no big deal to start a bit further back.

While I dont like this new system, it has the benefit of further reinforcing two points about qualifying:
- Nobody cares about the exact starting position in the top ten anymore. Qualy is not the life or death result it used to be back in the boring days where it locked in the race finish positions. I prefer boring qualys, and races where people can attempt strategies and gain positions.
- It avoids that big clustefuck at the end of a session wher everyne is lining up times and the camea stays on the fnish line with cars passing by and you barely get to see the whole lap, just cars passing the checkeed and setting times. People like last-second poles but honestly I didn't like that either. They should find a good compromise where it doesnt end 4 mins before, but doesn't revert to everything happening at the finish either.

Based on the comments here I'm glad I spent my morning in bed with my wife and kid watching baby tv.
