They probably thought it was a good way to get better racing by not having the cars setup up ideally and potentially mixing up grids

Bernie now seems to have decided that he agree's with the drivers "A million percent" that F1 should be about car & driver pushing flat out at all times & that he's going to tell Pirelli this at the next meeting.

Let's stand back a little:

- In the Bridgestone/Michelin era during the early 2ks, that was basically the case. People did push hard all the times. Was racing much better? Hell no.

- After Pirelli returned, with tyres that were more aggressive and degraded quickly, we had arguably the best season of the century so far: the 2012 season. With a lot of the excitement coming from people on different tyre strategies fighting back and unexpected tyre drop off.

- "car & driver pushing flat out at all times": This is "a million percent" bullshit, and historically wrong. For most of its history, before stuff became stupidly reliable in the modern era, F1 has been about knowing when to push and when to hold back. It made a difference between drivers with a feel, and utter brutes.

Yet many people across social media and here agree with Bernie. You can understand why though, considering that format of racing was introduced in 1994 with refueling and stayed in place for 25 years, bar 2005. Generations of F1 fans (up to the ages of early 30s) grew up with that as the only type of F1 racing they knew until Pirelli returned.

Personally I don't want that kind of racing in F1. To me the sport is supposed to middle distance to endurance, not a sprint. But on the flip side, should F1 drivers be able to push 100% throughout, would that increase the chance of unreliability and unusual results? After all, the hybrid power units haven't been run under this scenario. Maybe it isn't such a bad thing.

I don't care if they can or cannot push 100% of the time. I want full freedom of tyre choice. I want a tire that might make it full distance.

I love reading how Ivan Capelli nearly won the GP of France in his Leyton House because he decided not to pit at all and the race was only a few laps too long for him to do it.
These things wont happen each race or even every year but time to time it will happen and one day the right driver is at the right track, with the right car, at the right temperature and we're all sitting on the tip of our seat hoping he will make it and cheer or cry with him. And this is what we remember.
If everyone can push 100% of the time it still won't change much as the conditions are still the same for everyone.

Ferrari adding white? http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns32975.html

Suggestions it might be like the 1993 Ferrari, i.e.:

I think the problem with the way the tyres currently are isn't so much that they wear & that the drivers are having to manage them, Its the way they are degrading & the way & how much the drivers are having to manage them & the general feeling that the tyres are not offering a high level of performance because of the way Pirelli are been asked to make them.

If Pirelli moved away from thermal degredation (Which I think is the biggest problem with their tyres) & made tyres which could be pushed harder for longer but lost performance in a consistent way over a 15-20 lap stint as the compound got worn down like the tyres we had in the past I don't think the racing would suffer.

the problem is always that after the first tests, or after a couple of races if we are lucky, the computers calculate how to handle the tyres, and every team will do exactly the same. I remember seasons where Malaysia was 4 stops, and by the end of the season everyone was doing 1 stop on the same type of tyres. You can make compounds like you want, everyone still does the same. Some exceptions as always of course.

, not sure if you wanted to add launch dates to the first post but Autosport have finally published something useful:

February 3:
Renault

February 17:
Red Bull (Livery)

February 21:
McLaren

February 22:
Haas F1
Manor
Red Bull (Car)
Sauber (Livery)

March 1:

Thanks for the list! I've been super busy at work and with kids during these past two weeks. I added this to the first post and included Ferrari also.

A case of one down one to go with Renault's drivers.

Id much rather have they drop Jonathan Palmer than Pastor Maldonado. At least Pastor gives us a good laugh every so often.

I don't think Jonathan Palmer will have a seat in F1 in the future.

It would be awesome if Renault discovered they'd signed the wrong namesake, much like Toyota did in 2004.

There's a rumor that when Schumacher was signed in 2004 Toyota execs thought they'd signed Michael.

I'd certainly hope not, pushing on 60 I doubt he'd make it a few laps at a time without having to come in and pee.
